Ramirez has allowed seven runs and 11 hits in each of his last two games, including in a 9-7 loss to Detroit on Tuesday.

"I don't know what is going on," said Ramirez, who lasted 5 2-3 innings. "I just know I have to make some kind of adjustment pretty quick."

I don't have anything nice to say.

LET'S GO MARINERS!!

So....
Bill Bavasi, Angel plant? Beluga Tits: 6.98 ERA Ho: 7.62 ERA Reefer Jaw: 14.32 ERA That's a composite 9.03 ERA out of 3 rotation members, folks, with 20& of the season elapsed. Maybe he's still mad about 1995...

It's really remarkable that this team is .500
considering that.

I imagine that would have to be a historically bad trio of starters if they were allowed to pitch like that all season.

by patsfan on May 13, 2007 10:31 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

it gives a bit hope
given that adrian and richie are sucking worse than usual.

given that we have about 2 decent starters

given that our dh hits only singles

given all the hackouts

and that stats tend to relax to their averages

that this team is perhaps better than .500 ballclub.

of course i have no hope that the organization will do anything to change the starting pitching situation, so maybe we are doomed to .500

Felix Update
As you all have heard from Jason AC. that Felix' bullpen session did not go too well.

Its solely because he did it with a 102 fever. Yes, a 20 year old still showed up with a 102 fever. I love this kid.

Hes on schedule to start Tuesday it appears.

by Slica on May 13, 2007 10:30 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

WHEW
Not that having a fever is good, but this is good news, as his bad session had nothing to do with the health of his arm.

Conviction
Anyone remember this quote, from spring training?:

"I'd rather throw the wrong pitch, but a pitch I throw with conviction. That makes it right."

I came across a similar Horacio quote from his Atlanta Braves days:

"I'm just throwing with a lot more confidence. Before, I just kind of threw the pitch, but not with the conviction that I should have been."

I wonder what's with this guy and his devotion to conviction. It's sort of honorable, but I do wish that it would translate into a halfway decent ERA.

I wish Hargrove was our Gm evaluating talent
and not wasting away as our field manager:

"He's blessed that he has a tremendous amount of talent, but cursed in that he plays many positions well, which leads to him be a utility or role player."

From that same article:
Mariners log: When just-promoted reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith enters the game for the Mariners, it will be historic. As far as any research can determine, he will be the first hyphenated name to appear in a big-league game in a database of 16,919 players. ... Artie Wilson, a former Negro Leaguer and Major Leaguer, tossed out the first pitch before the game. ... Hargrove said when Jeff Weaver comes off the disabled list (shoulder tendinitis), he will rejoin the rotation, not the bullpen. ... If you see pink bats and pink accessories on the players on Sunday, it's all for a good cause. They are doing it in support of breast cancer awareness day. Bloomquist, Betancourt, Jose Lopez, Jose Vidro, Jose Guillen and Jamie Burke will swing the pink bats. There also will be pink ribbons worn by the players.

One can only hope they're just saying that for PR reasons...

Yeah...
The optimistic side of me, everytime I read those kind of quotes, keeps thinking it's just to save face/weaver's ego/building value for a possible trade. But they seem to be coming out so often now, it's like, "We get it, you're just saying that." It's starting to worry me more and more.

Is it me or does he pick a grip on the ball before he throws it, given enough time to make the play back to first?

Often when he collects the ball in his mit and transfers it to his throwing hand he'll look down almost as if to check that it's still there. Is he picking a grip on the ball, or just showboating??

Whew
Feierabend probably wasn't dealt.  From the News Tribune:

Brad Thomas made his first start for Tacoma, pitching four scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the fifth.

Thomas was filling in for Ryan Feierabend, who felt some tightness the day after his last outing. The club decided to give Feierabend a couple of extra days, and he will start on Tuesday in Jim Parque’s slot. Parque is troubled by blisters on his pitching hand.

Short hops

Left-handed reliever Jaime Cerda joined the club Saturday. Cerda, who has pitched in 132 major league games with the Royals and Mets, was released by the Mariners in spring training. He signed with the independent New Jersey Jackals but was re-signed by Seattle on Friday.

Mariners have not scored more than 3 runs
vs. the Yankees since that 14-run pounding.

by ThundaPC on May 13, 2007 3:48 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

JJ Is back!!!!
Hit 98 three times! Hit 97 a couple of times!!

He hasn't be over 96 all season. That split to Posada wasn't even fair.

that was perhaps the best ballgame ever
because of my low low expectations

Can someone go over....
to Let's Go Tribe and tell them that they aren't getting Adam Jones for Jason Davis.

or Chris Tillman

What if it
was Clement or WLAD?

by Coach Owens on May 13, 2007 4:02 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's not Clement....
That would go down as bar none, the more absurd move of the Bavasi era. I'd like to think that while he's not a great GM, he not a buffoon either.

I think that Wlad is a possibility. He's probably a AAAA type of player.

by PLU Tim on May 13, 2007 4:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

i'll commit ritual suicide
if it's Clement. Wlad, I'll just shed a single tear.

by Wolf on May 13, 2007 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They aren't even getting Oswaldo Navarro
Davis is a failed reliever for crying out loud.  They'll be lucky to get Marshall Hubbard or Robert Rohrbaugh.

by Gomez on May 13, 2007 7:09 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Huh?
On the postgame interview, the guy interviewing Putz said "You're now 9 for 10 in saves this year".....but JJ hasn't blown a save.  WTF?
Lets trade Weaver and Mateo for a chaise lounge and sixer of PBR.

FSN says...
... when he came in FSN reported he was 8 from 9.

Was there a no-decision in there or something?

He's 9 for 9
FSN sux.
If you look around the table and you can't tell who the sucker is, and then you see Bill Bavasi, it's him.

Putz....
is a muthafuggin pimp.

threw by far his nastiest split of the season to Posada.

WLAD
People seem to be willing to give up Wlad...couldn't we do better than Jason Davis with him?  I've seen a ton of 4.5+ ERA pitchers that won't cost a 'decent' prospect

by kentroyals5 on May 13, 2007 4:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Sounds like....
We'll know soon enough.

The Tribe fans are saying that they have to pick a player by May 20th.

fucking A's
Milton bradley ties it with a 2 run homer in 9th.

2 quick outs for the Indians and then that.

Is it just me or do the A's do more crazy shit in the 9th than anyone else??

Mariners Bullpen
Morrow: 2.63 era
O'Flaherty: 0.77 era
Putz: 1.15 era
Reitsma: 3.38 era
Sherrill: 2.61 era

White+Green= bad era

Most of our bullpen has been alright.

by dz on May 13, 2007 4:33 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

And if not for that one bad game against KC
Reitsma's ERA would be about a run lower. He's been a good signing so far at just a little over $2M.

His and Guillen's signing(.287/.357/.456) have worked out just fine so far.

Man Boston sure is running away with that
division. The Orioles are in 2nd place and they are 8 games back.

Also, I think this recent 13 game stretch against Chicago,Boston,New York, and Detroit had the very real possibility of sinking us. A small part of me was almost expecting them to tank, something like 4-9 or whatever.Especially with no Felix.

But they didn't. Not only did they not tank, but they came out with a winning record in that stretch(7-6).

For the first time in 4 years, I honestly think that my god, we might have just have a chance in this thing.

Honestly
I was expecting a 7-game losing streak.  Happens every year.

The fact that the Mariners are still over .500 in the middle of the month of May is a massive step forward compared to previous years.
