4/24: Open Game Thread

UPDATE: game cancelled. Mariners sweep Texas!

First Pitch: 11:05am PDT

Ichiro CF Hairston CF Beltre 3B Kinsler 2B Vidro "DH" Young "SS" Ibanez LF Teixeira DH Sexson 1B Sosa RF Broussard RF Blalock 3B Johjima C Wilkerson 1B Betancourt SS Kata LF Lopez 2B Stewart C ---------- ----------

Washburn (0-2, 4.42)        Padilla (0-3, 6.00)

I don't know what's sadder, that Vicente Padilla's K/BB so far is 0.43, or that Ho Ramirez's is twice as bad.

Go Mariners.

Early
Well at least I won't have to stay up late to watch it.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 9:08 AM PDT   0 recs

Question
Does anyone know if they are using straight radar to time pitches or are they using video measurement with the triangulation and other stuff like they did during the playoffs?

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 9:11 AM PDT   0 recs

You know what else is sad...
it's raining in Arlington now.

by basebliman on Apr 24, 2007 9:39 AM PDT   0 recs

Looks like
They will be dealing with off and on rainshowers and T-storms all afternoon.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 9:43 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh God dammit.
I cannot deal with unpredictable delays today. I have work to do.

by Jeff on Apr 24, 2007 9:48 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Im in class until 3
so I would be missing 3 or so innings as it is, if there is no game whatever i only miss 6 or 7.

by PShwa on Apr 24, 2007 9:54 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Texas rainstorms are a powerful bitch too
It's not looking good.

Maybe an F-5 tornado will sweep Vidro away (I'd say F-4 but it needs enough power to pick his fat ass up).

by Gomez on Apr 24, 2007 10:06 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Now I have a vision
Of Willie in Green makeup riding a bicycle in the tornado.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 10:20 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sigh..
Now they are under an official tornado watch.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 10:31 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Good day for Willie's homerun swing

by Robert on Apr 24, 2007 10:45 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

So if you hit the ball fair
and the resulting tornado sweeps you and the ball away, are you out or is that a ground rule double?

by Gomez on Apr 24, 2007 11:52 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Rats.
Thanks to a failure of modern technology, we don't get the privilege of a pre-game interview with Sean White.

by Jeff on Apr 24, 2007 10:38 AM PDT   0 recs

Looks like Broussard in RF today
And Joh is back in the lineup.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 10:43 AM PDT   0 recs

Does this mean
That Guillen will shank Hargrove?
The poster formerly known as KnightofKingK

by Robert on Apr 24, 2007 10:46 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ugh.
Washburn = flyball pitcher
Broussard = inexperienced outfielder
Weather = tornado.

Washburn + Broussard + Weather = UUUUUUUGLY!

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

by Phildopip on Apr 24, 2007 10:48 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh cripes
Since Jeff mentioned Ramirez at the end of his post, I kept assuming that he was going to be the starter today.

Blegh. This is going to be a nasty game.

by Katal LM on Apr 24, 2007 10:50 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh cripes
there's a byrd! (Throw's paddle). Look at that, not even close.
Serenity Now!

by Coach Owens on Apr 24, 2007 10:54 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

You forgot to add
Bandbox at Arlington into equation and of course Raul in LF.

Washburn + Ibanssard + BandBox + Weather = Roseanne singing National Anthem UGGGGGLLLLYYYY!!!

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 10:54 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Kata in left
so we know where to hit the ball today.

by MFAN on Apr 24, 2007 10:50 AM PDT   0 recs

We can win
maybe, if we can actually walk.
Serenity Now!

by Coach Owens on Apr 24, 2007 10:53 AM PDT   0 recs

Annnnnnnnnd
We're not starting on time.

by Chris21 on Apr 24, 2007 11:01 AM PDT   0 recs

really? no game?
fuuu...
Further proof that God has abandoned the Mariners. Everywhere they go, they are getting rained on, snowed on, and/or shelled. They must have been worshiping false idols (too much love for the King? Ichiro too reverent of his bat?), or being gluttonous (I'm looking at you, Turbo), or being wrathful (we did just bring Shank Guillen to LAA).

Games won: 6
Games canceled: 6

by Matthew on Apr 24, 2007 11:06 AM PDT   0 recs

Frak!!!
Oh well. At least it is easier to make up a game against Texas when you play them so many times during a season.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 11:06 AM PDT   0 recs

damn
I was hoping MLB.tv would show the tyra banks show!!

by MFAN on Apr 24, 2007 11:06 AM PDT   0 recs

I don't know about you...
but I could watch these dramatic scenes of ballpark field hands running with tarps all day.  Especially the guy doing his best Mario impression carrying the plunger.
When I said "Free Chris Snelling", I didn't mean "free" as in send him to Washington for a corpse... I just meant play him.

by DKulich44 on Apr 24, 2007 11:06 AM PDT   0 recs

Oh boy,
this is so annoying.
Serenity Now!

by Coach Owens on Apr 24, 2007 11:07 AM PDT   0 recs

so...
we won the series??

by MFAN on Apr 24, 2007 11:09 AM PDT   0 recs

I consider it
swept.

At Least
we won't have to make this up. By September, no one will give a rats.

Today's Final Jeopardy category is...
"The Federalist Papers"... wait, no that's for regular jeopardy being taped after this.  Your category is "Horseys".

Does this mean Washburn pitches tomorrow in OAK?
hopefully, since i will actually be there, and i really don't want to watch Batista

by mutt1823 on Apr 24, 2007 11:19 AM PDT   0 recs

I hope so
The Al Davis Reconfigurable Hole is a good place for flyball pitchers.  All that foul territory makes for easy outs.

by Llewdor on Apr 24, 2007 12:16 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ah, the McAfee Cavern
The cold air also holds those suckers in... unless you're Willie Bloomquist facing Barry Zito.

Supposed to be
mid-70's here tomorrow. Warming towards the mid-80's by the weekend.

a baseball game in good weather?
Never have i seen such a thing...

WHAT
Are you sure we're still talking about Oakland, CA?

by Gomez on Apr 24, 2007 6:02 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Speaking of oakland
first time at the coliseum tomorrow..
to anyone who has been there, parking suggestions?

by mutt1823 on Apr 24, 2007 6:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes
Take valuables out of car and wear a bullet proof vest.

Seriously though when I was there I just took a cab over. it was cheaper than paying for parking and less frustrating than trying to find a spot.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 6:27 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Just take BART
Marinerds - a different daily dose of baseblog.

Bay Area Rapid Transit.
The light rail stop is right by the Coliseum.  Park elsewhere, ride train, much easier.

having never been to Oak...
where is the best place to park, in speaking of general areas?
Or specifics if you know...
i am driving in from Sac. area.

by mutt1823 on Apr 24, 2007 8:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

i guess
we can make up for the 14 dollars in Dogs

by mutt1823 on Apr 24, 2007 8:28 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes. Probably a good idea
You could also collect empty shell casings outside the stadium and sell them to a scrap metal dealer for cash.

Kind of like in Seattle where you can find extra Willie grit and sell it to people from Port Orchard as an ahprodisiac.

Dollar hotdog night
doesn't mean dollar beer night too does it, or are those still nine dollars

by mutt1823 on Apr 24, 2007 8:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Just Dollar dogs...every Wednesday
If I remeber right the beers were 8 or 9 bucks. I seem to remember a Corona being 10.

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 8:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

wow
Ten dollar Coronas

Park at El Cerrito del Norte BART Station
Ride BART to the Coliseum. It's an easy walk to the ballpark (just follow the crowd). El Cerrito del Norte BART Station is off of I-80 at the Cutting Blvd off-ramp.

And don't let any of these guys scare you. Not one of them has ever actually been cut or shot at an A's game. More fans have been killed at Giants and at Angels games than at A's games. Geez, it's not like it's a Raiders game or something....

by kva15 on Apr 25, 2007 9:26 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

2nd'ed
Also, since tomorrow is Wednesday, it should be dollar dog night there. So come hungry.

by patsfan on Apr 24, 2007 6:37 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

but
With Blanton on the mound the hot dogs may not last long.

by MFAN on Apr 24, 2007 7:04 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

seriously?
well then that makes this game so much better

by mutt1823 on Apr 24, 2007 8:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Plus taking a cab (or public trans)
You can drink expensive domestic beers to your hearts content and not worry about driving home or to a hotel (which is where I was).

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 6:32 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Good
I'm glad we built SafeCo supposedly with the purpose of getting 0 cancelled games, otherwise....
Where all that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.
