UPDATE: game cancelled. Mariners sweep Texas!

First Pitch: 11:05am PDT

Ichiro CF Hairston CF Beltre 3B Kinsler 2B Vidro "DH" Young "SS" Ibanez LF Teixeira DH Sexson 1B Sosa RF Broussard RF Blalock 3B Johjima C Wilkerson 1B Betancourt SS Kata LF Lopez 2B Stewart C ---------- ----------

Washburn (0-2, 4.42)        Padilla (0-3, 6.00)

I don't know what's sadder, that Vicente Padilla's K/BB so far is 0.43, or that Ho Ramirez's is twice as bad.

Go Mariners.

Well at least I won't have to stay up late to watch it.

Question
Does anyone know if they are using straight radar to time pitches or are they using video measurement with the triangulation and other stuff like they did during the playoffs?

by Ben in Va on Apr 24, 2007 9:11 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

You know what else is sad...
it's raining in Arlington now.

by basebliman on Apr 24, 2007 9:39 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Looks like
They will be dealing with off and on rainshowers and T-storms all afternoon.

Oh God dammit.
I cannot deal with unpredictable delays today. I have work to do.

Im in class until 3
so I would be missing 3 or so innings as it is, if there is no game whatever i only miss 6 or 7.

Texas rainstorms are a powerful bitch too
It's not looking good.

Maybe an F-5 tornado will sweep Vidro away (I'd say F-4 but it needs enough power to pick his fat ass up).

Now I have a vision

So if you hit the ball fair
and the resulting tornado sweeps you and the ball away, are you out or is that a ground rule double?

Further proof that God has abandoned the Mariners. Everywhere they go, they are getting rained on, snowed on, and/or shelled. They must have been worshiping false idols (too much love for the King? Ichiro too reverent of his bat?), or being gluttonous (I'm looking at you, Turbo), or being wrathful (we did just bring Shank Guillen to LAA).

You could also collect empty shell casings outside the stadium and sell them to a scrap metal dealer for cash.

Park at El Cerrito del Norte BART Station
Ride BART to the Coliseum. It's an easy walk to the ballpark (just follow the crowd). El Cerrito del Norte BART Station is off of I-80 at the Cutting Blvd off-ramp.

And don't let any of these guys scare you. Not one of them has ever actually been cut or shot at an A's game. More fans have been killed at Giants and at Angels games than at A's games. Geez, it's not like it's a Raiders game or something....

I am wondering if the Mariners will put Baek in the rotation later this year when we start playing double headers on what would normally be days off.  Or, assuming (safely) that Weaver will not be in the rotation by then, perhaps Woods and Baek...

by DCMariner on Apr 24, 2007 9:21 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

That that  random ChiSox fan who pops up every now and again thinks he can annoy us by bringing up the Thornton trade. I am so, so, soooo glad he's gone from the M's roster.

by Graham on Apr 25, 2007 1:03 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe the want Mateo
You need a righthander so you can blow games with the right matchups.

by BlueBaron on Apr 25, 2007 10:34 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dunno
I'm not a Thorton fan, but we can all see that he has/had potential.  they did a good job of getting relievers that teams were tired of waiting for.  They took all of Kansas City's good relievers, Sisco, MacDougal (did they take Burgos?)
Thats not a bad strategy because they're not losing much to get these guys, and one of them has to pan out.
Back to the original topic, I know a White Sox fan last year who repeatedly told me last year that the White Sox screwed us over by getting Thornton, and I kept telling him that Thorton blew big-time, and if the thought too highly of him and put him in situation where the game mattered, the whole thing would blow up in their faces.  I dunno if I was right, but he's proved to be nothing more than a decent lefty out of the bullpen I think.

Burgos went to the Mets
And I think you're mistaking 'good' relievers for 'relievers who have had seemingly good years' here. There's an important distinction.

by Graham on Apr 25, 2007 10:50 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Its not really normal
for a pitcher to half his walk rate and HR rate.  Maybe he did turn a corner but I'm happy with him gone.  I'm also still skeptical that he changes.
