3-2

Walking out of the stadium, I was interviewed on camera by a Fuji TV reporter who wanted to know what I thought about Matsuzaka vs. Ichiro. All I could talk about was Felix.

Full writeup tomorrow, although I don't think I'm going to have any words for what I just witnessed. Just...just remarkable.

I bet yeah not a word is gonna be said in Japan
about Felix. It's all Ichiro vs DM(and maybe a footnote on Johjima).

Like somebody said in the game threads, once Ichiro grounded out in the first, thousands of Japanese Tv's were probably shut off.

Jaw Dropping
For what it's worth, nobody in the center field bleachers had any idea who Felix is.  I told them all that they, along with the rest of the country was going to find out tonight.

Usually when I make statements like that, I end up eating crow - mainly due to the fact that my teams end up falling flat on their face.  Tonight was different.

I'll remember this game forever.

All hail King Felix!

this game in Boston
Somehow I think it is fitting that Jeff was there to witness this in person. I would have loved to see that game in person, but if I had to give up my seat to one person... well you get the idea.

WHere's BrickRoyl when we need him, anyway?

Johjima on Felix before the game:
"Johjima said that Felix Hernandez, who will oppose Matsuzaka in what should stand up as one of the marquee matchups of the season, throws a similar pitch to Matsuzaka's so-called gyroball.

Asked what Felix's version of the gyro was, Johjima replied in English, "I call it a slider.""

I
Have never been so disgusted by a mariners game in my life. ever. what a sheer showing of disrespect and classlessness. I mean to have this game today, when I have a once a semester 3:30 to 5:00 class and a process and planning market segmentation test that is worth a third of my grade at 6:30 rendering me enable to watch a single second of this game. What a sheer like of style by the M's and more importantly by Felix Hernandez boo.

Two awesomely history-making games.

I was at Big Daddy's in Woodinville
Kicking back a few brews and wow. the whole bar seemed to be taken aback after that last out. We were in awe of his awesomeness, but it was hard to believe that... we actually have something to look forward to. We have a pitcher who can be the greatest in the game.

My first thought after tonights game was... "damnit, we better sign this kid to a long term deal."

WE BETTER OR ELSE I FUCKIN GIVE UP. I do not want to see Felix going for nothing and us getting some retread piece of shit like weaver for a few million less a year.

Git-r-done or sell the fuckin ballclub. Bastards.

So does anybody want me
To slice up and edit todays game. Its gonna have to be a 10gb torrent unless somebody has a program that converts DVR-MS files.

You could probably play that format with
VLC player.

How were you able to record the game?

I googled it and found this on a Reds Forum
"http://sdp.ppona.com/

download sdp...it should be easy to use...whenever you're on mlb.tv right click on the video and goto properties, you should be given a link thats like mms://...copy that link and put it in the field in SDP and then follow the program. any questions just ask."

I don't have MLB.tv so I cant see if this works

I can't believe I didn't get to see it.
Though I am no less ecstatic.

I was in Boston watching with big Boston fan
He had no idea who Felix was before the game.  He sure as hell does now.  He was completely blown away.  Another good friend of mine is a huge Sox fan and he sent me a text message after the game, "You guys have a really good pitcher."

I can tell you that Francona seemed awe struck after the game.  He said Felix was borderline unhittable and that some of the breaking balls looked like they fell off the end of the world.

Can't wait to see what Schilling has to say on his blog.  My sister was at the game and she said that everyone inside the park was very depressed after the game.

I can tell you that the local media sure as hell knows who Felix is now.  The FESN announcers wondered whether they'd ever seen such a dominating performance by a pitcher so young.

Just. Unbelievable. Night.

Woooohooo!
I just went out to dinner, and they replayed the game around 7.   The guy next to me at the bar was a big Sawks fan who didn't know the score.
I was eating and just chuckling to myself as the guy got that weird frustrated/awestruck feeling we all used to get when Felix pitched.

I'm about as happy now as it's possible to be without ecstasy being involved.

Thank you, April 11th, 2007 - you are a rad day.

I hear you
I'm married...I'm just not going to say anymore.   Is it, y'know, OK to publicly say that this game made me happier than my wedding night?   That's pretty low shenanigans, right?

OK, I'm not saying that.   But I'm saying that when you put a red sox fan next to me for the replay, you're just tempting fate.

I'm gonna go ahead and say it
Right now, there is no doubt in my mind that Felix Hernandez is the single best pitcher in Major League Baseball.

Yeah yeah, two starts don't make blah blah.  I honestly don't think it matters.  The King is literally unhittable.

you're literally correct.  :-)

Felix's A game
is higher than anyone else in Pro Baseball. However, pitchers like Santana are (so far) more consistent in throwing their A or A- game than Felix has been.

That being said, 2 starts in, he's starting to look a little like Tiger (e.g. can dominate even with his B game)

by Matthew on Apr 11, 2007 9:53 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Baseball Tonight said that Felix is among the best
pitchers in baseball.

Quote from David Ortiz
This speaks volumes:

"He had the best stuff I have seen in the last five or six years," Sox slugger David Ortiz said of Hernandez. "He could have a career like you couldn't even imagine. Nolan Ryan. Pedro Martinez. Curt Schilling. He could have a career like that if he takes care of himself."

So
Anyone know what the record is for scoreless innings to start the season?

by Graham on Apr 12, 2007 3:41 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Dunno off the top of my head
But Orel Hershiser has the overall consecutive scoreless innings record with 59.

by Gomez on Apr 12, 2007 8:58 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

start to break Williams record.

Oh yea If you look ahead,
Providing that today is snowed out, Felix is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday. Minnesota has a off day before they get here and if they decide to skip or switch the fifth spot in the rotation, guess who will be pitching that night. Felix vs Johan

by Robert on Apr 12, 2007 8:36 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

All your aces are belong to Felix
I would love if Felix went head to head with all these aces and beat them heads up.  After that, you'd have to go beyond Cy Young consideration and start thinking MVP.

by Gomez on Apr 12, 2007 9:02 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

if a DH will never be able to.

what someone said above, that the FO better ante up to sign Felix long term.
Overpaying worthless retreads (like Weaver) and keeping the budget down by a few million (instead of paying Felix) won't be acceptable.

Fuckin' Japanese...
Felix owned our Matsuzaka.

ACKNOWLEDGE THIS NOW.

I saw ONE reference while I was channel flipping about Felix beating the living tar out of Boston. Alas, they won't pay attention until he strikes out Matsui and Iwamura and Iguchi 30 times in a row or something. And even then it will be about the feared American MLB pitchers.

Weh. And they show full highlights from fucking FIFA games that have Europeans chasing around a blasted buckyball.
