Loaiza (11-8, 4.70) Jimenez (0-0, crap)
Esteban Loaiza has put up a 2.15 ERA and a 43/7 K/BB over his last eight starts, carrying the Oakland pitching staff on his back when they needed it the most. Cesar Jimenez has three e's in his name. Matchups don't get much closer than this.
In roster news, Cha Baek went on the 60-day DL with soreness in his throwing arm, and Jorge Campillo got called up just a year and two days after undergoing Tommy-John Surgery. Campillo's been rehabbing almost all year long and won't be back at full strength for a few months, but this is a pretty nice way to reward him for his effort and persistence. And, come to think of it, I wouldn't be too surprised to see him get a few innings tonight given that Jimenez blows as a starter.
16?
LET'S GO MARINERS!

Go Oakland
by anky on Sep 25, 2006 7:14 PM PDT reply actions
Oh yeah, like Jeff said, this is a win-win for us
If we lose, not only do we help end the Angels season, but we get that much closer to a better draft pick! Wooo!
So either way, I'm gonna be happy when this game is over.
Heh.
TAMPA BAY MANAGER JOE MADDON AND PITCHING COACH MIKE BUTCHER WERE EJECTED BY HOME PLATE UMPIRE ALFONSO MARQUEZ IN THE TOP OF THE FIRST INNING FOR ARGUING BALLS AND STRIKES.
You know it.
eBay is dangerous.
by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 25, 2006 7:35 PM PDT up reply actions
Hmmm. eBay...
I got Adam Jones on Cheney autograph ball night, and Jeremy Reed two years ago. Between my kid and I, we could field an entire baseball league with all the game-used and autographed baseballs we've collected as of late...

I need to spend more time in Tacoma.

Or visit Safeco in January
Got my Kenji bat signed there, as well as my trifecta of Adrian, Richie and Felix baseballs. Even got Howard Lincoln's autograph a few years ago. Of course, you probably already know that story...

My mom got me a Felix auto'd ball last christmas
by WAB on Sep 25, 2006 7:37 PM PDT up reply actions
Nice.
It's funny - I've had a ton of luck getting auto's from players on other teams in person (Pedro, Nomar, etc.), but all my Mariners stuff was bought.
by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 25, 2006 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions
I got an autographed Felix rookie card last year
I do however, have an autographed ball from the ENTIRE 1995 team.

I remember Aaron Taylor.
by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 25, 2006 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Torii Hunter
He's 31 years old, his defense is slipping, and he consistently posts pretty bad BB/K ratios, but he's OPS'ing something like .830 this year, with a strong second half.
It's going to be really really hard for Terry Ryan to not pick up that option.
What's wrong with Dave?

don't worry
Psychological advantage, Hendu?
Twins clinch
New York
Detroit
Minnesota
Oakland
I'm fine with any one of those besides New York winning it all.
Me too.

Reading the Angel fans at HH react to us losing
I've never had more fun getting pounded by the A's.
Hargrove's so pissed
That wasn't quite as good as when he stuck his finger in Thornton's chest, but it was close.
Hargrove goes from Jimenez to Chick to Crueceta
So...
Yeah forgot about him
Tell me about it.

Bunting with Beltre...?
Let's recap Hargrove's strategy:
-Rivera gets out, brings up Ibanez
-Ibanez IBB'd to bring up Willie
-to the 11th inning we go
Here comes out #2
On to the 11th!
Coming to the plate, Rene Rivera

Deanna truly is good luck
Hope she's free this week...
Sort of
(seriously though, you should have seen me there just swooning, "HUSTON STREEEEEEET WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOOOOOOOU?" But this is mostly because I have Loaiza on my fantasy team and I'm in the match for 3rd-4th place and I really needed the win, goddamnit. Once the game was tied, I was like, "That's it, you bastards, the Mariners are going to win.")
Also, I'm totally in love with Rich Harden, so I'm not actually sure whether I can make him lose tomorrow. Hmm. I'll try. Maybe he'll get pulled after only a few innings.
OMG
I'm serious...
