9/25: Open Game Thread

First Pitch: 7:05pm PDT

Kendall C Ichiro CF Kielty LF Beltre 3B Bradley RF Johjima C Thomas DH Ibanez LF Payton CF Sexson 1B Chavez 3B Broussard DH Swisher 1B Lopez 2B Ellis 2B Snelling RF Scutaro SS Betancourt SS ---------- ----------

Loaiza (11-8, 4.70)         Jimenez (0-0, crap)

Esteban Loaiza has put up a 2.15 ERA and a 43/7 K/BB over his last eight starts, carrying the Oakland pitching staff on his back when they needed it the most. Cesar Jimenez has three e's in his name. Matchups don't get much closer than this.

In roster news, Cha Baek went on the 60-day DL with soreness in his throwing arm, and Jorge Campillo got called up just a year and two days after undergoing Tommy-John Surgery. Campillo's been rehabbing almost all year long and won't be back at full strength for a few months, but this is a pretty nice way to reward him for his effort and persistence. And, come to think of it, I wouldn't be too surprised to see him get a few innings tonight given that Jimenez blows as a starter.

16?

LET'S GO MARINERS!

A guy who has bad control
against one of the most patient teams in baseball.

I'm getting out the popcorn for this one because Jimenez is going to get DESTROYED!

"Apparently, it's Hargrove and Bavasi. Somebody from the Angels organization should file a protest with the MLB front office, for all the good that will do. If nothing else, it will bring to bear the light of the national media on their sorry asses and force those chickenshits into having to blubber up some excuses."
Willie Bloomquist and Mike Hargrove suck

Who cares about his one-hitter, Hendu?
John Halama threw a perfect game in AAA.

by Jeff on Sep 25, 2006 7:07 PM PDT   0 recs

did he say Mike Reilly
is the homeplate ump? Man I am pissed I didn't go to the game just to throw something at that man.

by jtopps on Sep 25, 2006 7:08 PM PDT   0 recs

Yay...
Snelling runs funny, like a thinner Matt Stairs.

by Jeff on Sep 25, 2006 7:09 PM PDT   0 recs

Two batters, two line drives.
Even Jimenez's presumably overweight mother is ashamed.

by Jeff on Sep 25, 2006 7:10 PM PDT   0 recs

First two batters send the ball deep in the OF
Jimenez is doomed.

Do the Mariners get to present the A's with their AL West Championship trophy?

They should.

Jeepers. talk about two guys you don't want running into each other.

by jtopps on Sep 25, 2006 7:13 PM PDT   0 recs

Yeah...
I think he thinks all three positions are his responsibility. He routinely calls off Ibanez/Snelling when they've already got a bead on it.

by Jeff on Sep 25, 2006 7:14 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

One start from Jimenez
could single handedly ruin the Mariner's 2007 season.

by Aaron on Sep 25, 2006 7:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Go Oakland
I'm always down with helping eliminate the Angels from the playoffs.

by anky on Sep 25, 2006 7:14 PM PDT   0 recs

Oh yeah, like Jeff said, this is a win-win for us
If we win the game, we end the torment against the A's! Wooo!

If we lose, not only do we help end the Angels season, but we get that much closer to a better draft pick! Wooo!

So either way, I'm gonna be happy when this game is over.

Soriano, Putz, and Ibanez on the way.

eBay is dangerous.

by Jeff on Sep 25, 2006 7:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hmmm. eBay...
I wonder how much my autographed Kenji Johjima bat would fetch.

I got Adam Jones on Cheney autograph ball night, and Jeremy Reed two years ago.  Between my kid and I, we could field an entire baseball league with all the game-used and autographed baseballs we've collected as of late...

Are we there yet?

It's sitting in its case in my dresser.  Sweeeeet...
I can't take this Hargrove shit much longer...

by WAB on Sep 25, 2006 7:37 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Nice.
Autographed baseballs are always the way to go.

It's funny - I've had a ton of luck getting auto's from players on other teams in person (Pedro, Nomar, etc.), but all my Mariners stuff was bought.

by Jeff on Sep 25, 2006 7:39 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I got an autographed Felix rookie card last year
couldn't find any balls.

I do however, have an autographed ball from the ENTIRE 1995 team.

I also have a ticket signed by Cirillo and an All-Star Ballot signed by the Chief.

Torii Hunter
$12m 2007 option, $2m buyout.

He's 31 years old, his defense is slipping, and he consistently posts pretty bad BB/K ratios, but he's OPS'ing something like .830 this year, with a strong second half.

It's going to be really really hard for Terry Ryan to not pick up that option.
