Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

9/25: Open Game Thread

First Pitch: 7:05pm PDT

Kendall C Ichiro CF Kielty LF Beltre 3B Bradley RF Johjima C Thomas DH Ibanez LF Payton CF Sexson 1B Chavez 3B Broussard DH Swisher 1B Lopez 2B Ellis 2B Snelling RF Scutaro SS Betancourt SS ---------- ----------

Loaiza (11-8, 4.70)         Jimenez (0-0, crap)

Esteban Loaiza has put up a 2.15 ERA and a 43/7 K/BB over his last eight starts, carrying the Oakland pitching staff on his back when they needed it the most. Cesar Jimenez has three e's in his name. Matchups don't get much closer than this.

In roster news, Cha Baek went on the 60-day DL with soreness in his throwing arm, and Jorge Campillo got called up just a year and two days after undergoing Tommy-John Surgery. Campillo's been rehabbing almost all year long and won't be back at full strength for a few months, but this is a pretty nice way to reward him for his effort and persistence. And, come to think of it, I wouldn't be too surprised to see him get a few innings tonight given that Jimenez blows as a starter.

16?

LET'S GO MARINERS!

Torii Hunter
$12m 2007 option, $2m buyout.

He's 31 years old, his defense is slipping, and he consistently posts pretty bad BB/K ratios, but he's OPS'ing something like .830 this year, with a strong second half.

It's going to be really really hard for Terry Ryan to not pick up that option.

Pinch runner
Grit came in to run for him.

by JLC on Sep 25, 2006 10:17 PM PDT up reply actions

He was pinch-run for.
I don't know why. Hargrove made some weirdass pinch-running decisions in that last inning.

Willie and Rivera in there. Yeah!

Nice
That shit's just dandy!  Rivera...I can understand.  He's a beast.

But Willie?  I mean, WTF?

Idea!
Hey guys, we got our staff ace!  Just leave JJ in for 9 and we get......at least 27 k's!  If that don't say ACE to you, you need to be bitchslapped.

Idea
How about we have Mark Lowe as our "Opener" and he pitches 2 innings every couple of days to open the game and lead into our "middler" of Soriano who can go a few innings.  Then it all leads to our shut down closer JJ.

-bunt Ichiro to 2nd with Beltre to bring up Rivera
-Rivera gets out, brings up Ibanez
-Ibanez IBB'd to bring up Willie
-to the 11th inning we go

Sort of
Well, I owned the A's, but it took almost 4 hours.  I guess I'm getting less efficient.

(seriously though, you should have seen me there just swooning, "HUSTON STREEEEEEET WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOOOOOOOU?"  But this is mostly because I have Loaiza on my fantasy team and I'm in the match for 3rd-4th place and I really needed the win, goddamnit.  Once the game was tied, I was like, "That's it, you bastards, the Mariners are going to win.")

Also, I'm totally in love with Rich Harden, so I'm not actually sure whether I can make him lose tomorrow.  Hmm.  I'll try.  Maybe he'll get pulled after only a few innings.

Draft standings updated now
we dropped 2 positions with the win. Take the baf with the good I suppose. On the plus side, it would be quite suprising to drift out of the bottom 15 as long as we don't sweep Texas.
