What, just because Bonderman hasn't given up more than 2 runs in a start in the last month and Pineiro hasn't given up less than 4?  :)

Indeed
The number of hits and runs Junkballer will give up in the first 3 innings is as unpredictable as the number of consecutive Mariners that Bonderman will retire.

"We Lose" Because:
  1. Everett is still on the team.
  2. Hargrove is still running it.
  3. Pineiro is handed the ball again.
And in baseball, three strikes and you're out.

Mark Lowe
Based on what little information I can find about the guy (thanks to some minor league splits and Jason Churchill), he comes at you with a moving fastball in the low-90s, along with a change and two marginal breaking pitches. After looking "just okay" out of the Wisconsin rotation a year ago, he's taken off as a reliever, fanning 60 in 46 innings while doing a phenomenal job of keeping the ball down (2.83 GB/FB in Inland Empire; can't find it for his time in San Antonio). Come-and-go command and a simple lack of development will keep him from sticking in Seattle this time around, but he'll be back if he keeps blowing through opposing batters like he has this season.

That said, I'll be shocked if he pitches more than once a week while he's up. You know how it is.

by Gomez on Jul 7, 2006 8:48 PM PDT reply actions

I can see the story after tonight's game...
SEATTLE, WA - (AP) Joel Pineiro wasn't sure he had what it took to win anymore.  That all changed on Friday night against a potent Tigers lineup.

Joel Pineiro worked seven masterful innings, striking out two, walking two, and giving up three earned runs.  He got into trouble early, allowing a first inning run, but hits and runs were few and far between after that.

One of those came on Craig Monroe's mosterous homer to left field, into the upper deck.  Pineiro wasn't fazed.  "I let one bad one go by," Pineiro said.  "I think I had my best stuff today, and if it's good enough to hold the Tigers to three, I feel I've really proven myself."

Manager Mike Hargrove agreed.  "Joel ran into some problems early, but he's a gamer.  He's got a never-say-die attitude and never gives up.  He's a good guy to have on the roster."

The problem today was the offense.  "I pitched good enough for the win, they just couldn't score for me," Pineiro said.  "I did my job.  It's time for them to start doing theirs."  The Mariners were shut out for the 11th time this season, and they let another gem go to waste today.  Seattle pitchers, especially those as talented as Joel Pineiro are all starting to feel the offense needs to come out and play.  After all, the pitchers can only do so much.  Even stars like Joel Pineiro.

Seattle General Manager and Vice President of Baseball Operations stated after the game that Pineiro will take over the #1 spot in the rotation following the All-Star Break.

We'll Always Have the Kingdome: Because I'll actually update it now, and I promise it's not that bad.

Editor's Note:
You might want to mention that Jo-el imploded in the 8th inning. Just don't try to get any quotes from Hargrove. The 8th was past his bedtime.

Never mind. Forget the 8th. Nobody likes to read bad news.

If today doesn't earn Joel and Julio
A ticket out of town, nothing will.  I'm sure they'll come up with some BS about how Joel pitched fine, but Julio allowed few runs that weren't his fault, because he came into a high-pressure situation and that's tough for any reliever, and since he only gave up one hit, he did fine.
