Borchard DFA'd, Nageotte called up

From rotoworld.com:

"Nageotte had an 8/9 K/BB ratio while giving up nine runs -- seven earned -- in 16 1/3 innings for Tacoma. He'll be headed back to the bullpen now after starting games in Triple-A. If the Mariners would let him settle into a role, he might have better luck."

"Borchard hadn't received an at-bat in 12 days, as manager Mike Hargrove made it clear that he preferred Willie Bloomquist as the alternative to Jeremy Reed in center field. Borchard will have to report to Triple-A Tacoma if he clears waivers."

Hargrove should really be canned
Borchard was a good pick-up, and it is just sad that Boom Boom is preferred over him.  Watching WFB make some pretty shaky to embarrasing plays in the outfield this year, and considering his mediocre track record...

Oh well.  I hope that Borchard clears waivers, and I hope that he can clean up his swing in our system hopefully.

I won't miss him
Borchard has no business being in the majors and he can be easily replaced. I just wish they called up TJ Bohn instead of Nageotte because he is a far better option for back up centerfielder than Willie Bloomquist. Also, it would allow Nageotte to continue developing as a starter where he is much more valuable rather than being used once a week as a long reliever. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing him pitch, although the grounds crew had better bring a mop between innings.

No
Borchard hit a wall at AAA with the ChiSox and of course stunk with the big club over the course of three seasons.  Dave Cameron claims the bad performance was from malaise but I'm not buying it.  His swing is too big for his power to be of use.

Remember, we got him for Matt Thornton.  Think about his value.

Hargrove's 'preference' over WFB is simply a matter of choosing the least stinky piece of shit.

However,
The Sox had been after Thornton for a couple of years, too.  So, it wasn't all for naught.  Borchard will be pretty good, give him a little time.  Now we go back to 12 pitchers too.

Have no fear
Your bro will keep his key role, and if anything, I think Raffy's and said bro have been overworked in the early going.  And Mateo and Woods don't inspire a lot of confidence.  This could be a mash up audition for Nags and an opportunity to see which pitcher should get sent off next, while watching Tacoma to see who would make the best OF.

Or something to that effect.  I'm just trying to make sense of nonsense :P

Useless....
Why not TJ Bohn? He'd allow Boom Boom to be the utility infielder. They're going to continue this useless search for a another infielder when they can just get a REAL centerfielder to play CF and solve the same problem.

Back to this stupid 12 man pitching staff. I was getting worried for a while that the M's didn't have enough guys that can't throw strikes on the team.

So much for that 11 man staff.
We all should have a bit of Willie Bloomquist in us. ~Mike Hargrove

WTFOMGKELLYCLARKSON!!!!
12 pitchers. Bah.  Nageotte needs this time in Tacoma.  Foppert, B-Liv, too.  Fruto might've been OK for the 'pen.  I don't like this move here at all.  Nageotte's just not quite ready.  All Star Break, maybe.  Just not now.

The M's need some offense.  They need to give AB a night off.  If the M's were going to insist on giving Reed so much freakin' time off that they start their only spare infielder (who should really never start anyway), instead of the guy they just DFA'd, they've got some serious management issues.

So who will we add to the 40-man?  A spare infielder?

by PositivePaul on Apr 23, 2006 1:58 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
If Nageotte's going to eventually be a starter, he still needs time in Tacoma to stretch out... unless the coaches in T-town don't like what they're seeing from Nags after 40-50 pitches and, having learned something from Gil Meche, realize he's better suited pitching in shorter stints.

I hear Fruto has a wildness problem.  C/D?

Maybe they add someone in Tacoma to the 40 man.  But who?  If no hitter is suitable, maybe they should add Stephen Kahn to the 40 Man.  21 Ks in 10 IP so far.  Dude's got Future Closer written all over him.

If we absolutely have to have a 12th pitcher
there's a guy named Jeff Harris who is probably the best option

by I'm NOT Corco on Apr 23, 2006 2:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Certainly
I wonder if Jeff Harris is on the MLB Mike Marshall Blacklist.

Harris was definitely the best option if they were gonna call up a 12th pitcher.

Jeff's on a time-out
Today was the first day Jeff could be called up, after being sent down on the 12th (10 day wait). Jeff has something even more important than baseball on his mind right now (I know, "what could be more important than baseball?"). I am hoping that the FO recognized that Jeff needs a couple days for his family right now, and that is the only reason they didn't call him up today.

This is just a feeling by an uninformed source (no inside knowledge or anything), but I would not be surprised if a pitcher (maybe two) on the current major league staff is traded in the next few days. The M's seem to want to bring Appier up very soon, too. Tacoma is hurting right now with Nags called up, Appier on the bubble, Foppert with a sore arm, and Dorman getting rocked (although he pitched better today).

Jeff's situation (which is all good) will become public on Monday or Tuesday. In the meantime, he is pitching two out of every three days, building up his arm strength for when the M's need him.

Ah, good
Best wishes for Jeff Harris and hope things are looking up for him.

Also, it appears Nageotte was optioned back to Tacoma today.  ?!  Maybe that was a buy-time move until Harris could come back.

Could Be...
And you know I hope so. What is really strange about it, though, is that they had to DFA Borchard just to bring Nageotte up for a few hours and one inning. Maybe (likely) the FO felt this was the best time to get Borchard through waivers successfully.

I hope Nageotte knew that this was just a one day call up, or else he must be really bummed right now! At some point this year, Nags HAS to come back, so he can rectify that small sample ERA of 27.00

Whoa, WTF?
Does this mean Meche is gone?
I know! We can teach someone to hit against lefties by benching them every time we face them! -Mike Hargrove

Whispers are...
that it's Pineiro.

Or possibly Eddie going to DL and Meche to the pen.

Official Mariner's Release
The M's official release says that they aren't adding anyone right now. They might even start the White Sox series with 24. That's the way to show those World Champs. "We'll kick your ass with one bench player tied behind our backs."

http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060423&content_id=1414761& vkey=news_sea&fext=.jsp&c_id=sea

Something is going to explode here any minute. Let's hope it's not something like the M's trading Borchard back to Chicago for Matt Thornton (sorry, I'm going to wash my mouth out with soap now...).

Now that
would be a fitting end to this homestand.  Just when you think it can't get any worse...

If this happens
and one of Meche/Pineiro gets ditched, it will be a mind-blowing move.  A step in the right direction, but still mind blowing.

If Meche gets ditched
I will do a happy dance.
