Thompson looks grittier
we should have signed him instead. Plus then we could have had the King and the Prime Minister in our rotation.

Grittier?
That tub o' goo couldn't grow a hair on his face if he tried.

by Jeff Sullivan on Dec 1, 2006 2:38 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah but look at him!
he's all pixelated and in black and white! how much grittier can you get?!

by Matthew on Dec 1, 2006 2:40 PM PST up reply actions

I see
So sideburns =/= grittyness?
Mike James is the least gritty baseball player in the last 20 years then.

Willie Bloomquist and Mike Hargrove suck

Freddy Garcia might have him beat:

Now the spelling gestapo has infiltrated LookoutLanding...

[Thomson] will become the new [Pineiro]

;-)

Are we there yet?

That's not a very nice thing
to wish on Mr. Thomson.

Oh, wait, you just mean the spelling.

What's the mass of an electron now, Anaheim?!

I thought John Thompson
was the legendary Georgetown coach :P

by Gomez on Dec 1, 2006 5:16 PM PST reply actions

Come now...
John Thompson's two year run as Canadian Prime Minister is the stuff of legends.

by ningwers on Dec 1, 2006 5:21 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah
But did he singlehandedly turn a college in DC into a basketball powerhouse?  METHINKS NOT.

by Gomez on Dec 1, 2006 6:10 PM PST up reply actions

What are you trying to say?
A college basketball team>Canada?

you basterd

Yahoo! Sports has the Thomson story
courtesy of Rotowire. Here's my favorite part: "He's a groundball pitcher, which would work well at Safeco Field." Good thing he's a grounballer! That'll really minimize the effects of Safeco's short 130 foot left field porch.

by Slozbury Stouvre on Dec 2, 2006 10:54 AM PST reply actions

Argh
"MLB.com reports that Jose Guillen will sign with an American League team, likely the Mariners.
We would have thought Guillen was sick of pitcher's parks by now, but apparently not. If he joins the Mariners, it figures that he'll play right field, with Ichiro Suzuki staying in center. Dec. 2 - 2:38 pm et"

So angry. So so so so very angry. Please be just a rumour.

by Graham MacAree on Dec 2, 2006 12:11 PM PST up reply actions

Hey
if we sign a guy like this, it all depends on the price.  If you sign a guy like this (and hopefully he's still decent in the field) then Ibanez gets switched to DH.  I don't mind having Snelling in LF.  Have we ever decided which position is actually harder in Safeco, LF or RF?  I know there was some debate about it.

Sign him to a small contract and its a good move.  That makes Broussard or Sexson easily expendable and if Guillen looks good at the break, he can be flipped to some team for some interesting talent.

by Edgar for Pres on Dec 2, 2006 12:20 PM PST up reply actions

My reaction
Is a visceral 'I'm worried about Snelling' reaction. It has nothing to do with any sort of extensive analysis.

by Graham MacAree on Dec 2, 2006 12:49 PM PST up reply actions

Nats offered him arb
guh, there's so many other players that are better and wouldn't cost us a draft pick.

This is Carl Everett redux, except maybe worse.

by Matthew on Dec 2, 2006 12:30 PM PST up reply actions

This would be an awful move
He's younger than Carl, but probably a bigger jackass, and more of a hacker, which is NOT what this team needs.  He's also a RH power bat, also not what this team needs.

by Gomez on Dec 2, 2006 12:43 PM PST up reply actions

I didn't!
But it's not like I'm at my most rational when something endangers Doyle's playing time.

by Graham MacAree on Dec 2, 2006 1:02 PM PST up reply actions

I'm still not sure
Who knows, maybe he'll surprise me.

by Gomez on Dec 2, 2006 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

We're still even on picks
Assuming Meche signs elsewhere
Willie Bloomquist and Mike Hargrove suck
