Dave Hansen Activated, Chris Snelling Optioned (Again)

The Mariners sent OF Chris Snelling down to Tacoma and activated Dave Hansen from the 15 day DL this afternoon. This roster move won't affect trading Randy Winn, but it's curious that they decided to send him down this close to the trade deadline, with Randy Winn being one of the most likely players to change uniforms by August 1st.

This makes no sense

Hansen said he was healthy last week, they didn't play Snelling, and now were even closer to the trade deadline (and Winn's inevitable departure). What was the point?

Hmm

My guess is that they thought they had a deal for Winn over the weekend, meaning they would have needed Snelling, and then the deal fell through.

I'm thinking of catching weekend games in Tacoma and Everett, so in a bittersweet sense it'll be cool to see Snelling play in Tacoma, where he's comfortable, productive and isn't treated like the 25th guy on the bench.
