Ichiro Post on SI.com by asshat Frank Deford

23

He says Ichiro is on pace for 5000 hits! Well, let me give the exact quote: Since he's in top shape, Ichiro will probably play long enough to end up with a total of 5,000 safe hits in major-league play. Mariners knew about Josh Leuke's past?

89

Bored with the Mariners. Good news! Geoff Baker has an article for you. Mariners says they didn't know about Leuke's past. Rick Adair say he actually informed Zduriencik ahead of time before the deal was completed. Rangers GM Jon Daniels comments on his side of the story. Chuck Armstrong demanded a substitute for Josh Leuke. Zduriencik has implemented google search policy in wake of this issue. Josh Leuke just wants to move on. Controversy!

Arizona Fall League rosters finalized

4

The Mariners will be sending seven prospects, which isn't exactly new news. What is kind of new news is that Tom Wilhelmsen is replacing Dan Cortes, a decision made because the Mariners want Cortes to face some higher-pressure situations in Venezuelan winter ball. The other players going to Arizona: Dustin Ackley, Maikel Cleto, Josh Fields, Josh Lueke, Matt Mangini, and Nate Tenbrink. If you arrange all their initials in alphabetical order, you get ACDFJJLMMMNTTW.

2010 Tangotiger's Fans Scouting Report

I'm surprised there hasn't been a post/fanpost/fanshot about it yet. Mariners fans are tied for 6th in 2nd place in submissions as of 6 hours later. Don't we usually rule this thing? Help Tango! Submit your evaluations!

On bandwagoning the Padres

I realize this isn't related to the Mariners at all, but I imagine many of you are more interested in other teams the rest of the way than the Mariners, so here we are. Let's ride this thing until it breaks in half.

Michael Pineda shut down for remainder of season

15

Despite a rough couple outings at the end, Pineda finishes his 2010 campaign with 154 strikeouts, 34 walks, and a 3.36 ERA between two high levels he'd never seen. Zduriencik says he's got a great shot at making the team out of camp next spring, but don't forget that, if the M's hold off on promoting him for a few weeks, then due to service time rules they'll have him under control for a full extra year. Expect Pineda to begin in Tacoma, where he'll work on building up arm strength, or straightening out something in his mechanics.

Strasburg --> Tommy John surgery

36

Or at least that's what's likely. I think this just goes to show that people have, for the most part, no idea what actually causes injuries to pitchers. Strasburg was as coddled pitch-count-wise since being drafted as anyone in history probably, and this happened. In any case, this sucks for baseball.

He is very clearly miserable. Cliff Lee was just a happy-go-lucky guy who was good at his job, and Texas has choked the spirit right out of him. Shame on you, Texas. You have killed the happiness of a happy man.

How Much Impact do Managers really have?

10

Cliff Corcoran of SI writes about how much a manager can really impact a team. Jeff wrote something similar to this recently and I thought it was pretty relevant to our current situation.
