2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft
First Day Summary: Aumont is a huge pick as it represents a long term outlook for the team's success.
Mangini and Gallagher are both players that were rated much higher at the beginning of the season than now. They both have shown flashes of higher level talent than where the Ms took them.
Almonte, Carroll and Dunnigan are classic Fontaine picks of athletic up the middle players.

We're gonna do something stupid
Just to shed a small amount of optimism
In 2005, it wasn't until draft day morning that we learned that the M's might be interested in Clement. Morrow didn't become the clear cut favorite until the night before the draft last season.
So, let's hope...
And it looks like Porcello has priced himself out
ROFLMFAO!!!!!
Just like they grabbed Miller when he surprisingly was available to them last year.
I'm not going to lose sleep
As I've told Pauly for a month, I've kind of had my hear set on Matt Dominguez or Beaven. Either of those guys would be a fantastic pick for the M's. Of course, if Aumont is there, I'd be happy as hell with him too.
Sure.

Draft Highlight Prediction
I'm optimistic about the draft
Mariners don't fuck this one up plz.
Highly unlikely that any Boras client
Yah
If they take Dominguez
I don't want to mock the running blog
So I guess it's going to be
- Price
- Moustakas
- Vitters
MLWU is up, below this entry
Have fun, guys. I'll probably be AWOL for most of the draft, and I'm sure whoever we get will have enough upside to give up hope. GO MARINERS.
That said, I agree with katal that Dominguez would not be a bad pick at 11. But there's quite a few picks I wouldn't be at all disappointed with.

I think you've missed one.
Jim Street will persistently spell his name wrong.
John Hickey will, too.
There'll be questions in 3 consecutive M's Mailbags that ask why the M's drafted Bloomquist ahead of Pujols. Two of them, though, will totally agree with the M's decision...

And say:
You forgot though Jeff....
Gomez repeats the intro on his 6/6 MLWU
does anyone really flip out about the draft?
I'll need to go through the archives
I don't think the marginal utility between the top guys is all that great, in any MLB draft, not nearly enough to raise a stink about any particular pick.
Jonathan Mayo
Why would they trust
And it's on.
My Draft Prediction
Analysts discuss who the red sox and yankees might draft.
The Giants draft (whoever).
Analysts discuss who the red sox and yankees might draft.

are you saying
Indians-Beau Mills
re: Good call Cleveland
In baseball, you almost always draft best player without worrying about what you need. The main concern is not blowing the pick.
It's almost impossible to predict what the talent profile of an organization will be at the MLB and upper minor league a couple of years down the road. If you make a good pick that contributes to surplus, you can always trade for what you do need.
When teams start factoring in need, they make decisions such as drafting Jeff Clement instead of Cameron Maybin. Even if Maybin were stacked up behind the rest of the Mariners OFs, if he were in the Mariners organization the Mariners would be in a good position to deal for some pitching help.
