Untrue
Measuring a pitcher based on how many letters are in his middle name is worse than both W/L and ERA.

by Graham MacAree on May 4, 2007 12:51 PM PDT up reply actions

But middle initial is fair game
Example 1: Felix A(wesome) Hernandez

I agree, but still.
He sucked big time this time last year.  I took my son to his first game at Safeco last year, with Felix on the mound, and he was completely bombed.  He wasn't pitching much differently than Weaver.  Well, he was missing a few more bats, sure, but the hitters were really making hard contact and blasting his pitches deep.
Pray for Felix. Pray for the M's!

After the game in Chicago last May
I talked to the team's physiologist and he basically told me that all our fears about Felix approach were true. Hargrove was going against Chaves and telling Felix to establish his fastball first and that as the season went on he would be able to throw his other stuff more often.

He also said that Felix would get lackadaisical at times and would go ADD on the mound when things got too easy.

Actually no
wins actually do correlate okayey to a pitcher's talent level (for example to FIP). There's just no reason to use them because there's FAR better metrics.

He cant hit in the day time this year.

Day games, 32 AB, 094 .147 .281 .428
Night games, 39 AB, 359 .405 .513 .918

His strikeout are 7 and 5 for day and night, respectively, so maybe it just a fluke.

Richie Sexson
Due to Sexson's slow, lumbering swing and gargantuan contract (2007 salary: $14,000,000 & 2008 salary: $14,000,000), Bill Bavasi should just save face by offering him and the utterly worthless Julio Mateo -- who'd easily be replaced by ground ball machine Sean Green -- to the New York Yankees for Josh Phelps (.269/.367/.423)--especially since Phelps would be a cost-effective (2007 salary: $600,000) platoon partner for Ben Broussard at first base.

Besides, the George Steinbreneer is probably the only guy who'd pay the remainder of Sexson's salary; plus, Brian Cashman -- and, for that matter, Joe Torre -- should be desperate enough to deem Mateo an upgrade in the team's bullpen.

It's nothing more than a pipe dream, though.

by Goose on May 4, 2007 7:27 PM PDT reply actions

Not a save situation
Up by 4, he'd have to go 3 innings to earn the save.

This is what I'm going off of:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Save_(baseball)
