Second inning update: Dave Sims reports elbow tightness, which would explain the command trouble. Also, uh ohs.

First inning update: Felix yanked after four batters due to injury. Velocity was fine, command wasn't. Didn't seem to have a limp walking off the field. Blowers is guessing a groin issue, as he was seen stretching his leg.

Happy Felix Day!

Go Felix!
I am excited about tonight's game. It's fun to watch the batters just look completely lost and demoralized.

They have to Feel like Kruk going up against Randy in that All-Star game a few years back where Randy threw him some chin music and Kruk pretty much gave up after that.

by Ben in Va on Apr 18, 2007 9:08 AM PDT reply actions

I'm still depressed about last night
I hate Weaver. And Jeff's mention in his last post about how the coaching staff is ruining Lopez reminded me of how much I loathe Mike Hargrove.

But hey, I love Felix. I can't wait to be at Safeco tonight.

by Katal LM on Apr 18, 2007 9:16 AM PDT reply actions

Maybe Weaver's colossal suckitude
actually helps Felix.  Facing someone as hittable as Weaver (I was going to say "mediocre and hittable", but mediocre would be a significant improvement) has to make hitters sloppy.

MLB.tv question
What's the deal with them asking for your credit card info all over again when you try to watch a game in a place different from where you first signed up? I'm trying to watch a game at work and it's demanding I give them my address and full credit card info again. Why so tight on the security measures, MLB?

by Slozbury Stouvre on Apr 18, 2007 1:44 PM PDT reply actions

They're verifying your identity
Otherwise you could have distributed your information to several people who all watch games from different locations.

You could still do that, but now you can only do it with people whom you'd trust with your credit card information.

by Llewdor on Apr 18, 2007 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions

I understand their reasoning, but I wish it was
just something like the last 4 digits of your card. When they first asked me for the whole number I had to double-check to make sure I wasn't getting phished at some place like MLV.com.

Will Hargrove be smart
and start Broussard in the OF tonight?

Silva has a harder time with lefties, plus Guillen got hit on the hand yesterday. And it's not like he'll be chasing down a lot of fly balls.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night
so I feel qualified to answer this.

Elbow tightness can mean a handful of things. Putz experienced elbow tightness in ST. Liriano experienced it last year. It could mean that maybe he's not stretched out enough or it might mean a serious injury. There's so much that could be read into this, that it's really not healthy to get upset until the bad news tomorrow

Niehaus - Reason #428
Niehaus puts me to sleep. I was all amped about baseball season starting up a few weeks ago. Then during the first week I watched an M's game where Niehaus is going on and on about how great Miguel Batista is, how he's a leader who will mentor Felix, etc.  Then Batista balked in 2 runs.  Then Niehaus was talking about how great the train is that passes by Safeco all the time, and how it wasn't a distraction, etc.  In the middle of him praising the train, the train blared it's horn so loud I could not hear the game.  I woke up from my Niehaus-induced coma when he actually spoke with emotion during the 3rd inning. It turned out he was excited the Aflac duck was back, and called it by name as if he were talking to an cute little infant.

You're right. I was drawn to this site because it struck me that M's fans are actually critical. So I commend you (those passionate fans on this blog) for that.  The M's fans I've known seem drugged. They do not question why their team sucks. They do not seem to even care. All they care is that Ichiro churns out cheap-hit singles.

Start watching the Blazers, they'll grow on you.  But I feel for you, because I so wish that we had baseball here in Portland.  And you guys have to suffer seeing you're team being ripped from you.  Its really a shame.  Hopefully, you can get the Cleveland Browns deals, where you keep the nickname and colors, so that you can have them back when the Hornets move to Seattle.

Pitchers are like sunglasses
You get a nice, expensive, stylish pair and you're bound to lose or break them within a couple of months. A cheap pair, like Bill Engvall puts it, will last for 5 years, fall off your head while you're boating out in the middle of the ocean, and 30 seconds later a scuba diver will pop up and ask "are these yours? I think you dropped them".
We want the funk! Give up the funk!

Time for Joe Nathan to blow a save...
Either that or wrap this up quickly so we can get more Felix info.

holy shit
Golden State is going to the playoffs.  I was in grade school last time that happened.

Fuck them.  They were always the one team I could count on to be more miserable than me.  I guess there's always the Devil Rays.

With how Beltre usually takes out 2Bmen
you'd think the catcher would have gotten blasted.

Couldn't you just
stop after .1 innings pitched? Because realistically, was anyone really paying attention?

by Trent on Apr 18, 2007 9:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Whatever the WPA is
for runners on the corners for the home team with 2 outs in the 9th, down 1 run... subtract that from zero and give it to Carlos Garcia, because sending Beltre home was his idea.

by Gomez on Apr 18, 2007 10:00 PM PDT up reply actions

In fairness
Jose Lopez was waving him in too.

by ThundaPC on Apr 18, 2007 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions

Serious suggestion
Vidro gets credit for the hit converting from 1st and 2nd, 2 runs down to 1st and 3rd, 1 run down.  Beltre gets dinged for the final out so loses the remaining WP after Vidro's single.

It's not really fair to Beltre to ding him with a decision he didn't make, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
