The Hargrove/Bavasi Dead Pool

So, seeing as there's not much excitement in Spring Training in store for us ("Oooh, a competition for the seventh bullpen spot! AND backup catcher!"), let's go to other pursuits...

Star-divide

... picking the date when Mike "I've been good at what I do. I'm still good at what I do." Hargrove and Bill Bavasi are no longer employed in their current positions for the Seattle Mariners.

Let's face it, if you think they brought in John McLaren to JUST be the bench coach, I have a slightly used bridge to sell you. The hook is obvious: "Hey, we're bringing in one of Lou's old coaches! See? We're still committed to winning!"

I'll start:

Mike Hargrove: August 12th
Bill Bavasi: October 4th

Closest to the pin wins. Ties allowed. Winner gets complimentary subscription to my diary (cash value yet to be determined).

Hmmm
How about they accidently stumble into 85+ wins and they get fired Aug 8, 2008 and October 4 2008 respectively.

Since the Mariners have shown they obviously
will not fire a manager who is not in the last year of his contract, he won't be fire in 2008 if they stumble into 85 wins this year. Because I bet get a 2 year extension or so if they are good this year.

My pessimistic prediction:
Hargrove: never
Bavasi: never
That's a right kerfuffle!

Prediction
Hargrove:  October 3, 2007
Bavasi:  October 3, 2007

That's right: 20,000 paying fans a night ERRRRRR 84 wins and 3rd place are absolutely unacceptable for this organization, sez Howard and Chuck.

Here it is...
Hargrove:  May 21st, a Monday.  It is also an off day after a homestand, a scheduled travel day.

Bavasi:  The day after the world series, so he can't join his beloved Braves, to whom he traded Soriano for some magic beans and the promise of a job later, until the off season.

At least this will make the season interesting.

And, what day do you think Guillen takes a bat to Hargroves desk and office for some percieved slight?

Last, but not least, will Vidro be on the DL or the opening day roster?

I killed a 12 pack just to watch it die...

My .02 cents
Hargrove goes early, due to a bad start and some poor spring attendance: May 21st 2007

Bavasi hangs on, but the writing is on the wall: Oct 8th 2007

Just to be different
Bavasi July 10th - so he can't screw up deadline deals.

Hargrove - October after the season ends when the new GM picks his own man.
