Huston Street, Ryan Howard named Rookies of the Year

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-rookiesoftheyear&prov=ap&type=lgns

Star-divide

As Jeff stated a while back, Street was a lock, cause rookie pitchers who step right in and close games for a playoff contender tend to get high marks.  Deanna must be happy about Howard, as the NL rookie race was up in the air after Clint Barmes went YIKES AND AWAY on his staircase.  He still can't hit lefties, though.

I'm just glad
Cano didn't get it.

I think Howard was the right choice, too. The voters actually got this one correct.

Howard...
You think Gillick would send 'im our way?  I'm sure we've got a 'veteran' we could send him.  I forget -- was it Garry or Jerry that was making a Ryan Franklin for Ryan Howard trade?  There's this nagging "Ben Davis" thing that keeps echoing in my brain, too.  Anyway -- thanks old PI blog!

A platoon of Bucky and Howard would be quite fun, since Bucky prefers lefties and Howard prefers righties -- and both would be cheap.  But, since Bucky's basically gone, and Howard ain't comin', there are other options to consider...

Yeah
"prefers" righties is a very delicate way to put it :)

I was calling the guy Cerrano for a good reason, but he really mashes if you put a righty pitcher out there against him.  It was good to see.  I didn't really expect him to take home the ROY... the good part is this means there's no way in hell the Phillies will trade him!

With his Bobby "Jobu" Abreu bobblehead
There was this game in the last week or two of the year, during the crazy NL Wildcard race, where Ryan Howard got his first ever major league extra base hit off a lefty pitcher.  It was a grand slam in the top of the 10th inning to win the game 10-6 for the Phillies against the Braves.

I couldn't help but imagine him going up to the plate for that at-bat muttering, "I asked you, Jobu, to come help me hit the lefties. I give you beer. I give you cheesesteaks. But you no come. Fuck you, Jobu. I do it myself."

Dennis Haysbert
... who played Cerrano in Major League, also played President Palmer in 24.  I love watching 24 on DVD with my friend who looks up to the President Palmer character, while I make Pedro Cerrano references.  It pisses him off and kills his Palmer is God buzz.

Wow, I'm a little surprised
The voters actually got these two correct this time!

What's next...Roger Clemens and Johan Santana winning the Cy Young?

Of course not...
Jon Garland and Dontrelle Willis, man.

Or, um...
Ryan Franklin
and
A.J. Burnett.

Er.  Wait.  The CYA is given to the "WINNINGEST" pitcher, not the "WHINY-EST."

My bad.

Even if
I think AJ would lose the NL Award to Ultra-Whiner Milton Bradley.

I think that...
this should transcend sports and have the award be called "The Terrell Owens Award".
