I'm sure there will be a solid draft post tomorrow but I was thinking I'd try to get something going tonight. This is intended to be about whatever you all want; players you'd like to see us go after, players you think we'll go after, just anything about the draft at all.
Personally, I am praying that Alex Jackson somehow falls to us, however at this point I don't think that is going to happen. I agree with Churchill (and Colin based off of the post he just made) that the M's need to crush this pick and get a high upside player who can be a star. I know the conventional wisdom is that if Jackson is gone, the M's will go with who they perceive as the best available arm but I wouldn't be upset if they went after a toolsy high school guy, as we have seen in recent years some of these guys, even if seen as reaches at the time, can turn into valuable big league pieces or major prospects. A couple names I like if Jackson is off the board:
Monte Harrison: He's committed to Nebraska to play football and has never focused on baseball exclusively but the tools are off the charts (sound familiar?). If the M's are confident they can turn him into a baseball player, he could be a very intriguing pick.
Nick Gordon: Not that big of a reach as he's regarded the top shortstop and number 2 prep position player in the draft. I know we seem to have a ton of shortstops but you never know when people are going to change positions. He can run, swings a good bat, and has an absolute cannon (he is the son of Tom and brother of Dee).
Michael Gettys: Once regarded as the top prep player in this class, his stock has fallen considerably this spring. Has great tools but even I think this would be too big of a reach for the M's. He's just been striking out a ton all spring.
