The Mariners take the field today for the rubber match against the Astros, hoping to leave Texas with two out of three wins, heading to Oakland only one game behind .500. And look at that lineup! Friday was the first, breakthrough hit starring Felix Hernandez and a surprisingly depressing ending that pumped up audiences for Saturday's sequel. Yes, yesterday was the second picture, showing the return of All-Star Hisashi Iwakuma and some dramatic and intense late game drama. Both those movies did quite well if not at the box office, then with critical acclaim.
For some reason, however, the option for the third sequel got sent to an awful, penny-pinching studio, and they were only able to afford one or two actors from the first two. They went out and got Garey Busey, and rented a cinematographer who just graduated from film school with all Bs. It's got a short running time, because the script has gone through the ringer with bad writers looking for a break on a terrible story. Oh, yes, lets see here...Willie Bloomquist at short batting second, John Buck behind the plate, Brandon Maurer on the mound. The makings of a hit.
Sometimes, though, these movies are surprisingly passable, and maybe that's what we will see today. Maybe. Hopefully. Maybe.
