Last night, Felix Hernandez pitched in one of the highest-scoring games of his career, tying the 12-5 mark set in a contest against the Houston Astros last July. Unfortunately for the Mariners' record books, he was handed only nine runs of support before getting ejected for arguing balls and strikes, exiting the game two runs shy of his 11-run record, established in yet another game last July.
As fun as yesterday's offensive outburst was for the M's, I get the feeling that David Price might not be so generous this evening. Price leads the American League with just six walks in 53 2/3 innings in 2014. When framed against 58 strikeouts, he ranks first in MLB with a 9.667 strikeout to walk ratio.
On the flip side, Price's last start was also his shortest of the year. He lasted five innings against the Baltimore Orioles, racking up a pitch count of 100 and losing 3-1 after giving up nine hits, a walk, three runs, and striking out three of 24 batters. The 28-year-old southpaw leads the AL with 61 hits, but considering the shoddy defense exhibited during last night's loss, it's not hard to imagine why.
