A Biological Look of Dustin Ackley and Kyle Seager

Stop touching! You're making it worse!

I never paid much attention to Biology in school. I got decent grades, but the whole subject matter grossed me out. I hate guts of all kinds. Hearts, livers, brains, ick! Internal anatomy should just stay enclosed in my opinion to keep from grossing me out. The Mariners offense over the years has grossed me out, but after the 2009 draft and a collegiate hitting machine, Dustin Ackley, was drafted I had hope.

I was little aware of a thing named Kyle Seager drafted in the 3rd round of that same draft, but he came to my attention when he was called up in 2011.

The narrative at the time was look at these two guys drafted from the SAME college on the SAME MLB team being called up at roughly the SAME time. They said Dustin and Kyle will bring their success all the way from Chapel Hill, NC to the big leagues. I was not aware of LL at the time, and you could say I looked at the narrative and it made some sense. These guys were going to help each other. They have a history together, and both have been successful at hitting a baseball in previous amateur and semi-professional lives. Why not at the major league level?

Well let’s review what we’ve seen so far:

2014:

The extreme splits between Kyle and Dustin’s 2014 contributions were much greater before Dustin decided to go o-fer in the Houston series and Kyle decided to single-handedly end an 8 game losing streak by himself. Like I said, I never paid much attention in Biology, but I know the definition of a symbiotic relationship. This is not it! There's nothing that can really explain the disparity in performance between these two players except some krypton-like force these two impose on each other. So, ya, it probably doesn’t mean much, but it is interesting at least that these two can’t get on the same page.

Like I said, I never paid much attention to Biology. Is there a genetic way to fix this?
