This morning, the Mariners will get an opportunity to even up the series against the Rangers, and they will do so with questionable lineup choices.
Erasmo Ramirez is hunting for his second win of the season against Texas after suffering two losses to the A's this month. He is matched by 25-year-old right-hander Tanner Scheppers, who leads the league with 14 earned runs over his previous three starts.
For reasons that are inexplicable to me, Nick Franklin will be subbing in for Robinson Cano at second base while Cano fills in at DH. Yesterday, Franklin went 1-for-4 with a triple and two strikeouts in the M's 3-2 loss to the Rangers. Miller, on the other hand, hasn't gotten on base since April 14. What does this mean? Nothing, yet. I'm just biding my time until Franklin becomes our new right fielder. It's worth noting that this will be Cano's seventh start at DH since the beginning of the 2013 season.
