After 30+ years of a bi-monthly paycheck when I hear the 10th and 25th of the month my first thought goes to payday. It always surprises me when I find out that other people get paid differently ... reading in old novels about signing for the weekly pay packet. Oddest way you have been paid for a job? Was barter involved?
Pay Day .. worth your candy calories? Apparently there was once an attempt to make a chocolate-covered Pay Day, which just looks like a Baby Ruth. (I do like a Baby Ruth....) When I was a kid Three Musketeers were wonderful, but they are way down the list these days ... I want darker chocolate and more variety.
Aug 10th in 1846 marks the beginning of the Smithsonian Institution, chartered after James Smithson willed his estate of $500,000. The museums in DC which are part of the Smithsonian are amazing, and I have never been in DC long enough to take full advantage ... even when we lived just outside of DC in the 60s. I have vague memories of seeing a giant whale in the Natural History Museum as a kid. During that same time we trekked off to see the Mona Lisa, in the US on tour. It was very small. Mostly I just remember the red velvet ropes keeping you back. They were beeeutiful. Exhibitions? Childhood impressions?
