You think winning-streak momentum can be stopped by a simple, measly off day? Maybe some paltry two- or three-game winning, streak, sure, because in those cases there's hardly any momentum at all. But we're talking about ten god damn games. Ten god damn consecutive wins by the Mariners. The momentum is off the charts, and it'd take a hell of a lot more than one day to slow these Mariners down. Momentum is mass times velocity. The Mariners are traveling at increased emotional velocity, on account of all the wins, and their mass has grown greater too. On account of all the acquired marbles. In order to stop something with momentum X, you need to present obstacle Y. In order to stop something with momentum MARINERS, you need to present obstacle [N/A; cannot be calculated].
Here comes another baseball game. Details:
- MARINERS
- AGAINST BREWERS
- AT HOME IN PEORIA STADIUM
- 12:05pm Pacific
- Gameday link
- audio streamed online and the broadcast will be on the radio on a tape delay
The Mariners' starting lineup:
Franklin Gutierrez, CF
Dustin Ackley, 2B
Michael Morse, RF
Kendrys Morales, 1B
Jason Bay, LF
Raul Ibanez, DH
Jesus Montero, C
Vinnie Catricala, 3B
Brendan Ryan, SS
It's like a Michael Saunders-less regular lineup, except for the Vinnie Catricala part. Look how quickly we all got used to the Jason Bay part. Take care to note that the Brendan Ryan part is batting ninth again, because that's where shortstops go according to the Eric Wedge handbook. "Shouldn't Catricala be batting ninth?" one might ask Wedge. "Is Catricala playing shortstop?" Wedge might respond. "No," one might respond in turn. "Then no," might say Wedge. "Shortstops bat ninth." I wonder if there's any significance to Gutierrez batting leadoff and Ackley batting second. On the one hand, yes, this might be Wedge's plan going forward. On the other hand, no, because lineup order doesn't matter. Several articles will be written about the identity of the Mariners' leadoff guy. It's irrelevant. We just did this literally last year. Oh crap, look at the time, hurry up and get this posted, Sullivan.
Starting on the mound for the Mariners is Blake Beavan, and he'll be followed by Erasmo Ramirez, and he'll be followed by relievers. At present my current favorites in the starting rotation battle are I don't have any because it's too early in spring and I don't know how the Mariners are evaluating their options. Scheduled to pitch today for the Brewers are Fiers, Hellweg, Kintzler, Bradley, and Pena. Do you know anything about any of those players, aside from the fact that they are pitchers on the Brewers? If so, congratulations, you know too much about baseball, you should try learning about something else, something more useful, something more broadly appreciated. Unless you work in baseball, in which case, good on you, and why are you reading this blog post, get back to work and make FIELDf/x and HITf/x information public. I assume that is entirely up to you. Also before you make that information public make sure the data readouts are easily understandable. Make it as easy as you can because I don't want to have to work too hard to get what I want. This is America.
