Let's get some pitchers

With the Morse trade complete it looks like the lineup is basically done, with a couple of minor issues like backup catcher and the 4th/5th outfield situation left to work out. We've ended up with a collection of average-ish position players with no obvious way to make an upgrade at this point in the off-season short of a surprise Stanton trade or a Bourn signing, neither of which is likely.

That doesn't mean roster construction is done, however. The most obvious place to make an upgrade is at the back of the rotation where we're currently depending on Beavan and Noesi. This team could gain 3-4 wins and badly needed depth by pushing those two to AAA or bullpen roles and replacing them with a couple of league average or better starting pitchers.

My strong prefernce would be to fill out the rotation via free agency with guys like Marcum or Saunders, given that we probably still have salary flexibility. I don't like the idea of trading Wells or Gutierrez as I think we're extremely thin on outfielders who can actually play defense. In fact I think Wells absolutely has to stay on this roster as an injury to Gutierrez at this point would push Ibanez into a starting outfielder role, something no one with a brain should want to see happen.
