This isn't really FanPost worthy in that I'm not presenting a new idea, but I thought it would be too many words to put into a FanShot. Here it goes.
I was checking out the Mariners page at Fangraphs today, and just wanted to point out a few interesting things that I saw. Felix is leading the Mariners in WAR of course, with 4.1
But who is behind him? Millwood with 2.2! I wasn't expecting him to be our 2nd best pitcher heading into the year.
But here's what I found interesting. BARTENDER is next with 1.4 WAR. I don't know what good relievers usually have by the end of the year, but that seems high to me. And who's behind him. Furbush himself with 0.8. So, yeah, our starters haven't been so good this year.
Vargas is next with 0.7, which isn't interesting until I saw that Lincecum has 1.7 this year. What??? I know Vargas is being punished for his home runs, but it's just weird to me that Lincecum is a full WAR higher than him.
I know it has been noted before, but Ryan is actually one of our more valuable players with 2.0 WAR mainly because of his defense (and walk rate?). Seager leads at 2.3 WAR with 100 more PA than Ryan. Condor is third with 1.8, and fourth is Ichiro at 1.7. It's nice that he ended this Mariners year with a positive WAR, though like Ryan a lot of it seems to have come from his defense. Next is sweet Jaso, who with half the PA of Seager, has 1.7 WAR. Amazing.
Also worthy of mention is Montero, who is at 0.0 WAR. Right above him? Felix, of course, with 0.1.
