Hector Noesi's outing was efficient, but reliant on retiring batters via balls in play as he struck out nobody. In total, Noesi has acceptable contact rates, but he does seem to struggle with putting hitters away when he needs to. Both of the home runs allowed today came on 0-2 counts and neither his fastball, slider nor change up were reliable in generating a swing and miss. Whether Noesi needs something as dramatic as a fourth pitch or, more likely, just a tweak to either his current stuff or his location/sequencing of it will be better determined in time.
On the plus side, half of the batted balls were on the ground, which was a definite plus when the outfield behind him featured Alex Liddi in left and Chone Figgins in center and the infield features Brendan Ryan.

A less successful inning from Shawn Kelley today, but ehh, it's pretty difficult to come up with someone to say about short relief appearances. Four batters faced and all four put the ball in the air but based on the odds, about half of the time all four of those become outs. And maybe of the other times, a different sequence prevents any runs from scoring.
