Franklin Gutierrez back in Seattle for further evaluation
Eric Wedge says there is "considerable concern," and that what's going on is "not something very common." So, fantastic. Gutierrez has done something to one of his pecs, and he's having his MRI results looked at by Edward Khalfayan and undergoing more tests. The best-case scenario is that Guti's back and active in, I don't know, a week? But we could conceivably be looking at something long-term.
I don't intend to speculate, of course. I don't know what's wrong with Guti. The team doesn't seem to know what's wrong with Guti. We should all have a better idea in a few days. But if you're not worried about this, either you're not paying attention, or you don't buy at all that Guti was primed for a bounce-back season after re-gaining his strength.

Well, that's terrible
Can only imagine how crushing a random injury would be after all that mystery-illness rehab.
Fuckity-fuck-fuck-fuck
On the other hand, welcome to the opening day lineup, Casper! Now’s your chance to shine.

I didn't have high hopes for Guti but I like being wrong. This is too bad.
...and now I'm here
Reasons why 2012 will be better than 2011:
We’re not going to give 500 PA to two of the worst hitters in all of baseball last season, Figgins and Saunders.
So, It looks like I'm not the only one whose day was ruined?
As soon as I saw this on twitter I knew there was no god. Damn Leap Day…I blame Leap Day
I'm guessing this means more Wells in CF and more Carp in LF
Oh well.

I just assume they're going to find nothing conclusive.
And then we’ll go a season-and-a-half of good Guti in decline.
Why does the team never know what is wrong with Guti!
I’m starting to think he may be an alien.

At least now if he plays and struggles,
we can say he had a lingering pec injury that caused the struggles. Then next spring, we can all be excited about him being 100% healthy for the first time in years, and how he is coming into camp in the best shape of his life since last spring, which is actually this spring.
I'm feeling pretty optimistic still.
This is our year guys, for reals.
I hope Casper or Saunders can pull a Tom Brady
or else this season is overrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Drayer confirms
Gutierrez injury will be treated non surgically and is expected to begin baseball activities in 4 weeks and be re-evaluated after that.
@Goose1701
So it's pretty reasonable to assume that he starts the season on the DL.
I wonder if Saunders will get another shot to open the season.

One more time...
David Cameron @DCameronFG
Guti’s out four weeks before he does anything. So, best case return is probably now May, given that he’s going to miss all of ST.

From coreperformance.com (no idea how legitimate this is)
Grade 1 recovery takes a matter of days. You can return to training when the symptoms have disappeared.
Grade 2 recovery is a matter of weeks—approximately 2-6.
Grade 3 complete tears usually require surgery; full recovery takes months.

Everyday? Yes.
For a few games? I wouldn’t HATE it. I will say that I prefer Wells out there, but I’m trying to think what Wedge would come up with.
Why can't the opposite of having an injury happen to Guti for once?
Maybe something like they discover he has developed enhanced buttocks that allows him to drive the ball farther, run faster, and fills pants better than people with normal buttocks.

Ah, the old rehab and re-eval routine.
That worked swimmingly with Aardsma and Bedard.
I picture Bedard sitting on a doctor's table
with that annoying loud paper and a backless hospital robe on, alone and in a perplexed way looking out the door asking, “hello?”
perpetually.
