Jason Vargas is almost certainly starting the second game of the season
I wonder if Major League Baseball realizes that the two teams it's sending to Japan to kick off the 2012 regular season are the Mariners and the Athletics. Isn't it enough that we take all their best players? How rude are we?

Given how this offseason turned out, I'm sure MLB wishes it was M's-Rangers
That would be, as they say, kind of big in Japan
For what it's worth,
During one of the Yu Darvis press conferences, the Rangers said they are working on being included in this…initiative?… in the coming years.

Yeah, but that won't match this year, with Yu debuting against Ichiro
Totally.
Those first games against the Rangers, the reporter scrum is going to remind Ichiro of the old days (now crossed fingers he’ll respond by hitting like the old days)

I don't understand why the MLB couldn't make that happen
think of the storylines!
I remember a time when we were talking about starting Felix and Pineda twice each in the first four games.
:(
I'm settled.
But I’ll always be sad/angry about the 2011 home opener.

Maybe the off-day on 4/8 means they skip the #5 starter the first time through
Rotation could be Felix-Vargas-Iwakuma-Millwood-Felix-Vargas, and the next game would be the home opener.
Millwood! Ha! Totally forgot about that guy.

AMERIKA FUCK YEAH
How come you can do all this other great shit, but you can't lie the fuck down and sleep?
Am I crazy to think that if Hisashi Iwakuma has a pretty good ST we should really start him Game 2?
It’s not like Vargas is super awesome. If Iwakuma pitches even close to as good as Vargas in ST, I think it’d be a so much cooler to start him in Japan.

Wedge sometimes seems clueless unfortunately.
I couldn’t stand his Peguero-love last year.
Hope this year it won’t be irrational Figgins-love.
It would be cooler but that's probably why they don't want to
Because there’d be a lot of pressure to perform in front of the Japanese crowd
At least this year we don't have to start at the Oakland fucking Coliseum this year
Because, you know, that’s just been so much fun these past few years.

Tokyo Dome
While looking into how hitter or pitcher friendly it was two things stood out: NPB loves symmetrical outfields and tall ass fences. Seriously, robbing someone of a home run must be the rarest of rare feats over there.
Look at that thing, it’s like if the LF scoreboard went all the way around. And the Tokyo Dome isn’t even in the top 5 for tallest fences in NPB!

"Seriously, robbing someone of a home run must be the rarest of rare feats over there."
Have you seen this clip? Pretty unbelievable play, a Hiroshima Toyo Carp centerfielder robbing a Yokohama BayStars batter of a home run – with incredible athleticism.
Even if you have seen it before, come on, you owe it to yourself to watch again ;\

I do recall seeing that. But still...wow, what a play!
Imagine if the fences were more than twice as tall though, as is the case throughout most of NPB. You’d have to be a fictional ball girl to get to the top.

I watched it again, really an amazing play.
He got there so fast and right on target (reminds me of Ichiro). Awesome instincts.
I do recall Ichiro making a similar-looking catch
To rob Steve Finley, of the Padres at the time. Can’t find a clip.
Thanks for the pic.
The Tokyo Dome looks pretty cool.
