PrintDoes the headline need any further commentary? Greg Johns provides some and some additional details about how the Mariners will handle their early winter training in preparation for the season opening trip to Japan. Greg also writes about Mike Carp spearheading a tribute to Greg Halman. The Mariners will unfortunately spend a second straight season with a death in the family at its forefront and based on how 2011 went (tribute-wise, not player performance-wise), I believe the organization will handle it with suitable grace.
But I don't want to get too bogged down in that just this moment. Pitchers and catchers reported. Baseball is almost back and regardless of how sucky the team was and might be, baseball is always better than no baseball. By the way, among the players checking in today was Jesus Montero.

Touching tribute.
Spring Training snuck up on me for the first time ever, but man am I glad it’s here.
I don't think I've ever been more excited a player going in a season than I am for Montero.
A full year of him and Ackley is going to make watching this year so much more enjoyable.

Montero spent part of a year with Jorge Posada
Posada was a swipe tagger because he got hurt like Posey did (but in the minors).
Therefore, I don’t forsee an issue like this happening to the kid.
So we've already heard that Olivo is in the best shape of his career, Smoak trimmed the fat and added some muscle and Guti is back to strength.
That’s 3 so far, anyone want to take an over/under on how many more M’s are in such good shape that it requires a story?

Already had a story about ten guys asked to do a off season workout for the club. They all look great!!!

That Carp/Halman story destroyed me.
As excited as I am about Ackley/Montero/Smoak, I’ll be rooting the hardest for Carp.
The date that Pitchers and Catchers report should be declared a national holiday.
And I hate it when holidays fall on a weekend.
Damn, Carp was already my favorite player.
Now it would seem a jersey purchase is in order.
