While my posting has been sporadic to say the least, I have had time to continue looking into the strike zone stuff that I began with a look at the differences between the right and left-handed zones. There are a lot of variables to investigate, which opens up the possibility for a lot of posts! Today, actually yesterday, I published a piece on (in?) FanGraphs on how the size of the zone shifts according to the count. Here's the table of sizes, given in square feet.
| Count | LH SZ Size | RH SZ Size |
|---|---|---|
| 0-0 | 3.40 | 3.49 |
| 0-1 | 2.75 | 2.89 |
| 0-2 | 2.38 | 2.39 |
| 1-0 | 3.43 | 3.52 |
| 1-1 | 3.00 | 3.07 |
| 1-2 | 2.53 | 2.43 |
| 2-0 | 3.55 | 3.63 |
| 2-1 | 3.10 | 3.21 |
| 2-2 | 2.92 | 2.88 |
| 3-0 | 3.70 | 3.73 |
| 3-1 | 3.22 | 3.36 |
| 3-2 | 2.87 | 2.97 |
| x-2 | 2.54 | 2.44 |
| 3-x | 3.33 | 3.45 |
| Any | 3.27 | 3.37 |
It shifts quite a lot!
