Interesting prompt. I wish I was at home with my full library to sort through.

The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Flight of the Conchords – The Humans Are Dead
Jets to Brazil – Rocket Boy
The Mountain Goats – Matthew 25:21

Hmmm
Acid Bubble – Alice in Chains
Brianstorm – Arctic Monkeys
At War with the Sun – The Big Pink
Sudden Death in Carolina – Brand New
Avalanche in B – Cold War Kids
80's Disasterama
The Smiths: There is a Light that Never Goes Out
The Fixx: Red Skies or Stand or Fall (either way it’s nuclear Armageddon)
Scorpions: (Rock You Like A) Hurricane
The Cure: The Stranger (Killing an Arab)
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions: Forest Fire
Either too easy or too hard with Metal
Nice call on Yoshimi v. Pink Robots
Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, Warren Zevon
Countdown to Extinction, or really pretty much anything by Megadeth
For Whom the Bell Tolls, or again pretty much anything by Metallica
The Night Santa Went Crazy, Wierd Al
Honorable Mention to Adele, Someone Like You
What, love’s not a disaster?
I'll give it a shot...
Haiti – Arcade Fire
When the Levee Breaks – Led Zeppelin
Indonesia – August Burns Red
It’s Not Safe to Swim Today – Veil of Maya
The Abolition of Man – Thrice
Hmmm.
Here we go.
Blow Up the Outside World – Soundgarden
Here’s to the Atom Bomb – Smashing Pumpkins
Run For Your Life – the Beatles
The Day the Niggaz Took Over – Dr. Dre
Waitin’ Around to Die – Townes van Zandt

The "What's Goin' On" Memorial List
And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda – The Pogues
Fall On Me – REM (more of an impending disaster, but still)
How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live – traditional, but the Springsteen version from the Seeger Sessions is pretty stellar
Five Feet High and Rising – Johnny Cash
Burning Down The House – Talking Heads
Since it's lookout landing
Smoke on the Water Deep Purple
I Feel the Earth Move – Carole King
Lava – The B52s
Fire Coming Out of the Monkey’s Head – Gorillaz
and of course, lets finish local.
Volcano – PUSA

Here's a few more
The Boiler – Special AKA
Down In The Tube Station At Midnight – The Jam
Cities In Dust – Siouxsie & The Banshees
Warm Leatherette – The Normal
Last Kiss – J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers (and later covered by Pearl Jam)
I would also consider any airing of Last Kiss a disaster.
Or at least some minor destruction due to thrown radios.
X.
Here are the five the most disastrous songs ever created:
The Shins, Caring Is Creepy.
Elvis Costello, Watching The Detectives
Genesis, Land of Confusion.
Neil Young, Old Man.
They Might Be Giants, Constantinople
Or back the real assignment:
Flying Burrito Brothers, Dark End Of The Street.
Steve Earle, Dead Flowers
The Clash, London Calling
NOFX, Dinosaurs Will Die
Anti-Flag, No Future
Dead Flowers is a brilliant song and I love Steve Earle
but the version of it on the Rolling Stones’ very underrated Stripped album (they covered themselves!) is pretty amazing.
It's a shame that every shitty bar band feels compelled to cover it.
Completely missing the point of the song entirely.
Easy
One Time- Justin Bieber
TiK ToK- Ke$ha
Superficial- Heidi Montag
Whip My Hair- Willow Smith
Tattoo- Van Halen
You'll have to listen to these in order and pay attention to lyrics, or I guess if you're awesome you'll know the content.
This should tell a story in order.
The emergence of the threat: World Domination Intro – Westside Connection
What do you do next?(for the title mostly): B.O.B. – Outkast
Well, that seemed to work. The World Is Yours – Nas
So what do you do now? Kill ’em All – Aesop Rock (RJD2 remix)
The five songs go from the start of the disaster to the end.
It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) – REM
Help! – The Beatles
Imperial March (aka FEMA Arrives) – John Williams
Money – Pink Floyd
(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones
Some old stuff.
Throwing Stones, Grateful Dead
Mother, Pink Floyd
The End, The Doors
A Hard Rain’s A’Gonna Fall, Bob Dylan
Riders on the Storm, The Doors
Over the top movie trailer-esque cheese
These are all probably cooler the closer one is, in age or maturity, to being an 11-year-old boy.
Mind Heist (a.k.a. the Inception trailer theme) – Zack Hemsey
Pompeii – E.S. Posthumus
Isengard Theme – Howard Shore, Lord of the Rings Soundtrack
Mars, the Bringer of War – Gustav Holst
Lux Aeterna (a.k.a. Requiem for a Dream theme) – Clint Mansell
Any one of these goes alright with, as George Carlin once put it, “…chunks of concrete falling from the sky and people on fire punching themselves in the head to put it out”.
Mars is so badass.
O Fortuna is another great classical piece for turning it up to ‘11’, but maybe not as appropriate for the disaster prompt.
Hmmm.. A scattered sort...
Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald – Gordon Lightfoot
Save a Prayer – Duran Duran
Questions for the Angels – Paul Simon
Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners – Foo Fighters #OldLLMemes
Enjoy the Silence – Depeche Mode
Does the World Series trophy come with a plate of bacon?
So many ideas.
I feel like one could do one entirely of Modest Mouse songs but I only got as far as Shit Luck and Tiny Cities Made of Ashes. It would also be very easy to make something entirely out of Nick Cave songs. Avalanche!, Red Right Hand, and The Carny might be good starts. I should have done those or put more effort into completing the narrative of the first three songs in my list but I decided I had Things to Do.
Andrew Bird – Fiery Crash
Soul Coughing – Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago
Modest Mouse – Tiny Cities Made of Ashes
Slint – Good Morning, Captain
Tom Waits – The Earth Died Screaming
These aren't the best 5, just the first 5.
1. Editors – No Sound But The Wind
(Don’t even care for the song much, but the association with The Road carries emotional punch.)
2. The Postal Service – We Will Become Silhouettes
3. Black Sabbath – War Pigs
4. Simon and Garfunkel – The Sun Is Burning
5. Andrew Bird – Tables and Chairs
Kaiju!
Godzilla – Blue Oyster Cult
The Gigantic Robot Kills – MC Lars
Signal in the SKy – Apples in Stereo (For the video)
The Attack of the Giant Ants – Blondie
Calling all Destroyers – T. Rex (off Futuristic Dragon)
Alien Invasion!
Cattle Mutilation – The Locust
Granite – Pendulum
Space Lord – Monster Magnet (or Crop Circle or anything really)
Invaders Must Die – Prodigy
unfunky UFO – Parliament
All I could come up with was 'Timothy'?
I know, it’s lame. Can’t even remember the band now, but it was a hit in the late 60s/early 70s, and I had the single.
Not my best playlist, but...
It’s Over – Tom Waits
Through the Roof ’N Underground – Gogol Bordello
Ugly Face – Nina Nastasia
The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead – Owen Pallett
and… oh, why not The Cool – Lupe Fiasco. That’s a nice little rounded-out list.
Disasterpiece Theatre
David Bowie – Time Will Crawl
Akira Ifukube – Title Credits from Destroy All Monsters
The Screamers – 122 Hours of Fear
Fishbone – Party at Ground Zero
Lupe Fiasco – Streets on Fire
Oh dude Party At Ground Zero
what an amazing song. I love Fishbone.

In a coincidental bit of timing...
I saw an update today on Facebook that my favorite Seattle group, Slow Dance, just booked a show 11 months in advance for Dec 21, 2012 (the end of the Mayan Calendar). Their album is definitely worth a download (free), assuming you like hip hop: http://slowdancemusic.bandcamp.com/
Destroy and Skate!
Iggy and the Stooges- Search and Destroy
Slayer- Ghosts of War
Braid- Please Drive Faster
U-Men- They
Misfits- Theme for a Jackal
Thrash metal!
Seek and Destroy – Metallica
Hangar 18 – Megadeth
The Evil Has Landed – Testament
Inherited Hell – Nuclear Assault
War Is My Shepard – Exodus
