Lost in that whole thing is Eric Sogard booting the ball with his glove and immediately making the bare-handed grab-and-throw to first.
ROBOT!
Love this soo much
reminds me of little league where I would get every base I could!

For the life of me, I will never understand what made St. Louis sour on this guy.
I’ve heard the stories, but I just don’t see it.
Probably begins and ends with LaRussa
If he doesn’t like you, you’re gone.
And his judgment is…suspect.

How can you say that about the judgement
Of a man who managed to keep his foot on the brake through multiple red lights while drunkenly asleep behind the wheel? Why do you think they call him a genius?
All I know is....
….that the fans absolutely loved him, both his personality and his style of play. Remember seeing dozens of Twitter messages about how it sucked that STL had gotten rid of him. Didn’t know the kind of player (and person) we had at the time.
Now I do.

That is amazing.

I love Blowers' little evil chuckle.
Fans are typically idiots.

Dear god we need to win this guy a World Series
“Then when I got to second it looked like the closest person to third was right next to me, and I figured if I get past him, I’ve got third,” he said. “Then I almost died, but I didn’t. So I got back up and I looked at home and I saw [catcher Kurt] Suzuki flying home, and dang, too bad he couldn’t trip and fall or something. I don’t know if I would have made it, but it would have been pretty fun to crawl home and score on that.”
I think one of the best things about this is that this isn’t the first time Ryan has advanced a base by catching the opposing infield off-guard.

If he would of made it home, that would surpassed the Felix Grand Slam as the single greatest Mariners play in the last 10 years.
RIP Dave Niehaus.
In Order
Felix Slam off Johan Santana
Ichiro Walk-Off against Mariano Rivera
Blowers called First Home Run by Tui
and then this.

Great List, thanks.
Does anyone have the audio for the most recent grand slam by Olivo? I kinda wanted to hear it since it was the first sans Dave. Still Love You Dave!!
Thanks in advance to anyone that has this link.
Go Mariners! Yes, they're from Seattle. No, that's a Florida team. We catch them.

Nice
I didn’t catch it the first time I watched it, but after reading the quote I watched the video again. As he gets up from sliding into third he cheekily checks home too.

I had just walked up from the home plate entrance
when this play happened. My view was blocked by some fans when Ryan reached first, and I had no idea where the ball was. Then he took second. Then third. Still no ball.
I was pretty sure I’d walked into some kind of alternate universe where the rules of Cricket were being employed. And I was just about certain he was going to take home as well.
Pity he can't get credit for two stolen bases for that.

Yeah, what the fuck. He didn't get credit for shit. It was ruled a fielders choice (twice).
Bad choice fielder.

Fielders' choice.
What choice did they make? The choice to assume the play was over and put their heads down? I guess that is a choice, sort of.
You would think, since the modern age of baseball is 108 years old, they would have worked out the scoring.
Apparentley it’s still not perfected.

Should have just been a stolen base error.
How come you can do all this other great shit, but you can't lie the fuck down and sleep?

watching this reminds me....
how much I absolutely hate Dave Sims.
Since the play was so awesome, I was cool with watching again.
And I’m not hearing where your hate could be coming from. I just don’t understand the degree at which people dislike the man.
Watching some MLB.TV free games, I realize we have it fairly good actually.

What a great...
…double-hustle…play.
I think Deuce’s attitude has a lot to do with how Sims reacts to extraordinary baseball plays, ie- Jack Wilson’s play at second early in the year.
Personally, I’d rather listen to Dave & Mike than just about any national broadcasting team.
I didn't like him at first
But he seems to have gotten better now that he has the regular gig with Blowers (who also has gotten better — he used to be good at the after-game stuff but Mr Repetitively Obvious with on-the-fly color). Some of it may be just adjusting expectations in the post-Niehaus world, but I really find the two of them unobjectionable at this point.
Watching this...
I literally have no idea what your beef is. Is it cause he misidentified a player from ‘09 and then immediately corrected himself? Or because he has the unbridled excitement of an eleven year old? Cause he’s probably one of the better commentators in the league, and we should consider ourselves lucky.
You’re entitled to your own opinion of course, but in this case it seems like it’s just really really not good.
Need more coffee
My thought while listening: “why would he have thought it was Matt Suhey, the former Bears fullback?… oh, Matsui. Got it.”
