Mariners to handle Michael Pineda with more caution down the stretch
There are few upsides to a mammoth losing streak that knocks the M's out of contention, but this is probably one of them.

They should really do the same with Felix

Except he has a history of being durable.
And the “King’s Court” is one of the few reasons to go to the stadium this season. From a money-making perspective, unnecessarily limiting his innings would be counterproductive.
Obviously overworking him would be silly, and if it looks like he needs (or would like) a bit of extra rest you give it to him. But Felix is a different situation than Pineda.
I am just worried about the M's over-working him in a lost season. They should be smart and start cutting his innings / # pitches' thrown

I think they should consider pulling him earlier in games if he doesn't have something special going on.
But as far as skipping starts, I don’t think that makes any sense.
As for Pineda, he sure sounds like a smart kid. Sounds like a pitcher, not a thrower (cliche I know).
Sobriety ain't too bad...
Exactly
He doesn’t have a fixed number of innings in his arm that you can save for next season. He’s shown he can be durable enough to pitch a ~240 – 260 inning workload.

Besides, if they limit his IP this year
Then we’ll be worried next year if he’s already significantly over 2011’s totals as the team heads into the postseason.
!
How about we go to a six man rotation?
Save everyone’s arms and boost Beavan’s stock for possible offseason moves.
tl;dr - I just made profound statement.
Hooray! More Beavan!

Lighen up on Felix
Even people who don’t believe the orthodoxy about 100 pitches and whatnot are starting to notice how heavily Felix is being used time after time. It’s simply too much to expect anybody to go 120 pitches every outing against today’s major league hitters (unless you’re facing the M’s, In which case, you’ve probably just pitched a 12-inning shutout anyway).
