Felix is ours, and he wants it to stay that way
Felix Hernandez wants to stay in Seattle well beyond the end of his contract in 2014, the reigning Cy Young winner told Manuel Lira at the Venezuelan paper Líder en Deportes. "Hopefully Seattle locks me up further," Hernandez said. "I want to sign for more. At least five years more." As for any chance of being traded to New York or elsewhere, Hernandez dismissed the notion as "just rumors."

I feel like if we give him just playoff appearance, just one, he will never leave us
That’s probably not true, but I hope it is

If we can't give him a playoff appearance, then he should leave us
There’s no way a player of that caliber should go a full career without reaching the playoffs.
That's ridiculous
It’s not a birthright to reach the playoffs.

I always have this blind faith that everybody that plays for Seattle wants to be a Mariner for life.
Whereas players on other teams can just leave without giving a toss about their former team. Is there something special about being a Mariner? I’m not sure. But when I think of a guy like Dustin Ackley, I don’t want to even think of the possibility that he splits his career between multiple clubs. Same with Felix, and his quote confirms my shoddy-at-best theory.

Felix may be a special case, since he was so young when he joined the mariners.
Like an eagle that has imprinted on the hand that feeds him as ‘mom’.
Or he just likes Seattle. Or he doesn’t really like Seattle and just is saying nice things to get along.

He's going to be all smiles holding up a Yankees jersey too

It's really awesome to hear him say that.
It’s a big thing in Aus to be a one team player. Admittedly with salary caps, it’s also easier. That was one of the weirder things to adjust to when I started following baseball.
