Ackley Batting Second Today
Brendan Ryan is getting the start off as Jack Wilson plays short, so Dustin Ackley takes over Ryan's spot in the batting order. No indication yet whether it's just due to Ryan sitting or more of a permanent fixture. Tune in tomorrow night!

This is going to very fun to watch.
When was the last time we were excited and felt really good about our top of the order?

I wish Chone would get better.
I was really looking forward to the M’s not having any awful contracts hanging around their necks next year.
I don't think any of us wanted him to play the way he's played.
I know I was excited when we first signed him. Him playing even close to how he did before signing with us would be a HUGE boost to our team.
Yeah - it seemed like an awesome pickup.
But somehow he fell off a cliff. I’d love it if he could get back to being the player he once was, but I don’t know if he can do that. But then again, I don’t know if he can’t do it either. I don’t know anything!
From Larry Stone earlier
“You can’t run away from Ackley,‘’ Wedge said. "You can’t ignore what you see. I’m not going to be stubborn and keep him down at the bottom just because he’s a young kid when he’s out there swinging the way he’s swinging."

Eric Wedge really calls Brendan Ryan "Ryno"?
I always preferred B-Ry but Ryno is fun.
And Ryne Sandberg before him

It's a little more imaginative than Ryanie
I wonder if Ackley will get Acklie, and if anyone will be able to tell.

I hope this is permanent.
I hate how teams hit rookies at the bottom of the lineup even though they are clearly an upgrade over someone else.
Well, that's what Wedge seems to be saying.
He said he’s not going to keep him down in the lineup because he’s young. So maybe it won’t be 2 (although I hope it is), but he should be hitting close to the middle of the lineup.
He needs to be hitting either 2 or 3.
Ryan is great and I love him as a player and Mariner. But the 2 hole for him is not his natural fit.
I agree - and would imagine that Wedge sees that too.
I really like our lineup today. Now if Guti can start hitting again, we’ll be in really good shape.
If Ryan was in there for Jack Wilson, that would be about as good as we can get
But I’ll take it. Figgins sitting is just the best for this team right now.
I actually don't mind seeing him hit 5th.
It’s nice to have someone after Smoak who stands a chance to drive Smoak in when Smoak walks. Smoak.
Awesome that Ackley is in the 2 hole
but I like seeing one of Balkan/Peguero in the lineup, it’s just exciting while not necessarily being a good thing. Plus, Carp has looked pretty mediocre while swinging at anything remotely close.
We really need to give Carp some playing time for the next week or so.
The next two weeks for him are sink or swim it feels like. He just hasn’t done much since tearing up the PCL.
He's hardly played since getting called up.

Thank you for saying this.
I fucking hate you Mariners

I think the M's know what to expect from Cust, so my preference would be to give Peguero and Carp most of the starts against RH pitching until the All Star break
If either show that they belong with the team for the rest of the year, great. If either or both show that they don’t belong, I would prefer to see them sent down to Tacoma where they can start every day until September call-ups.
The team only needs one them plus Cust. Halman can start in CF for Gutierrez periodically and then start against LH in LF.
