Dustin Ackley batting cleanup, playing center
Jokes! He's batting seventh and playing second. Sliding him in front of Figgins is a good way to get him to adjust all on his own without relying on some kind of intimidating, number-inflating protection.

Ichiro RF, Ryan SS, Kennedy DH, SMoak 1B, Peguero LF, Olivo C, Ackley 2B, Figgins 3B, Gutierrez CF.
Smoak hitting cleanup?!
Pressure is off now that Ackley is up I guess.
Sobriety is starting to feel normal.
Came to say the same thing.
I’d hit it.

Adam Kennedy is our three hole hitter :(
Other than that, fuck year.
Vote Month/Day 2012!

Gonna need some strong paper do deal with that.
Sobriety is starting to feel normal.
I'm waiting for Kennedy at 3rd, Halman in LF and Peggy as DH.
That would make this lineup super sexy.
Actually, until Guti comes around.
Kenndedy at 3rd, Halman in CF, Peggy as DH, and Carp in LF is most sexy.

Yeah, but Guti isn't going to come around on the bench,
and he’d by far the best OF defender.
Sobriety is starting to feel normal.
He just needs a strategically placed day off
Seemed to work for Smoak and Ichiro. So far Wedge has made the right calls with the lineup.

Whenever I hear or read Peguero being referred to as "Peggy"
I always think of this guy.

I think people are overreacting to Cust not playing.
Replacing any player with a possibly better player is still an upgrade for the team. Cust’s only spot is DH. While I think it’s a valid argument that Kennedy, Peguero, and Carp may not be as good as Cust at hitting, it’s also possible that they are (Kennedy and Peguero currently have higher wOBAs than Cust, and there’s an argument that Mike Carp might hit better), and 2 of those three players are abysmal defenders that shouldn’t be out in the field anyway. Replacing Cust with someone better isn’t that big a deal. He’s not on the team next year anyway.
Saying that Cust is awful and needs to be replaced is stupid, since he’s done okay. But he’s not exactly some wildly effective, irreplaceable player. He’s a no defense hitter that is only a little above average and is currently being beaten in wOBA by the players replacing him. Upgrades are still upgrades.
...and now I'm here
There was like a 1 or 2 week period where it would be appropriate to say "Cust needs to be playing everyday!"
That time came and went and probably won’t come again.

Or if he was a part of the team's future.
But he’s replaceable by all of our other okay hitting bad fielders we seem to have called up, so while it’s replacing one or our good bats with a ~equal bat, at least the ~equal bat is either a player that has a future with the team or Kennedy and his inexplicable ability to hit well.
...and now I'm here
I like having Cust around even if there's no remaining lineup he would improve.
And not just because he’s a nice bat to have on the bench.
I never liked the guy when he was with the A’s, and he always seemed a little full of himself, but listening to him in after game interviews I came away grudgingly impressed: it wasn’t just the usual "I was just looking for a pitch to hit’; for each of his hits he knew the count, what the pitcher liked to throw in that count, what the pitcher had thrown to him earlier, etc. He clearly was studying pitchers in much the way Moyer studies batters, and it made for a much more interesting interview. It also certainly makes him a better hitter. I hope he’s sharing that with all the rookies that suddenly surround him. I know he has his academy already, but it sounds like he has a future as a hitting coach.
Seeing Ackleys name in the lineup...
Oh God. The joy. The neverending rainbows of sunshine and happiness. Ackley 2B. Mariners. Oh fuck. I feel like I’m holding a kitten for the first time.
Fuck lollipops?
But, rainbows and kittens?

I wonder how Ichiro feels about this team now, considering how good we were when we signed him.

I'm not necessarily implying that we are a good team now. But we ARE in the thick of the race at the moment.
And it sure didn’t look like we would ever be in the race when we drafted Ackley.
Ichiro, well, I have no idea how that man has stayed so consistent on such a shitty team. I would have lost my marbles.
Look at Jason Werth..
He didn’t care how bad the Nationals were, just about the money.
It's also possible he saw that they have two potential superstars to pair with him for the last 5 or 6 years of his contract
Along with that scrub Ryan Zimmerman.
Not to say it wasn’t about the money, but I’m sure he also perhaps believes they won’t be terrible for much of his contract.
He got to play with Ken Griffey Jr.

For sure, I literally just wonder what Ichiro has been thinking for the past 7 years.
The M’s were actually quite a powerhouse his first 3 years and even ‘07 and ’09 can’t be considered great successes. That being said, we weren’t that bad at the time Ackley was drafted actually. Things were looking up and then ’10 happened.

I say "The M's were quite a powerhouse" as if this is your first day as a fan, but I was just going over 01-03 earlier today and I was almost flabbergasted at how good we were.
Seems like so long ago that it feels like it never happened.

Everybody focuses on how close were were to Strasburg, nobody talks about how close we were to Donavan Tate.
Thank God we picked 2nd that year.

Forget Strasburg, we have Pineda bitches!
Brace yourself for a no-hitter tonight.
Aaron Curry was a bust the moment he took the field.
I miss Alex Rodriguez.

If Pineda no-hits the left-handed hitter laden Phillies, the world will literally explode and everyone will die.
Most pumped I have been for a regular season game in a while. Was already excited for the Phillies to come to town,
But now Ackley making his ML debut, great to be an M’s fan right now! Meaningful games in mid-june!
We also have the Marlins coming to town soon.
As the home team.

This level of excitement for one player
Man what a rush. Giddy as fuck
