Not quite news!
Michael Pineda is our new number one starter. Wow, talk about a hasty promotion! I did not feel like Felix deserves such a dramatic demotion, but perhaps this will send a message to him that losing in any shape or form will not be tolerated. Of course, Pineda lost his start too. Hmm...
What this actually means is almost nothing. The team is committed to starting Felix as often as they can on a every fifth day schedule. It will be worth watching to see if they do throughout our off days. Felix could eventually bump ahead of everyone and circle back around to being our "number one".
Does Michael Pineda following Felix Hernandez mean anything different from following Erik Bedard? I don't think so and it's probably impossible to quantify even if you tried, but there's a topic you can go ass wild speculating about.
Oh no, Pineda's repertoire is too similar to Felix's! Teams will adjust and Pineda will be less effective! That is an example of a way to overreact to this. Can I react in the other side? Hell yes I can. Pineda following Felix will be great for him because now he will be charting Felix's starts and Felix will help set an example for him to try and compete against! See how easy this is? Do you? DO YOU SEE?
