Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

It seems he was primarily taken out of the game because of his two consecutive errors. You'll recall that Chone Figgins didn't take too kindly to this sort of treatment a year ago.

I didn't see the errors, but I'm of the opinion that pulling him for them is a little ridiculous.

Wedge knows how well Jack plays defense, and that Jack will probably recover nicely.

You there, play a position you've never played before and then be ostracized when you fail.

Waiting for the full story to come out.

I’m hoping there’s some shades of gray we haven’t heard yet. Also confused as to why Jack didn’t bitch out on Wedge in front of cameras. How else do you justify your contract when you’re struggling?

bwaaaaaah?
gbakermariners Wilson wasn’t hurt. Told me he was pulled from game and agrees with decision.

This could be one of those

“his day was rough enough already, no reason to leave him out there any longer” kind of thing. Remember this happened to one of the Seahawks RB’s (Lynch I believe?) after two fumbles last season? PC’s reasoning was that there was no reason to leave him out there to make another mistake. Pull him out, let him breath, and he lives to play another day.

Some people were surprised he didn’t get the day off in the first place.

The errors were pretty ridiculous

but so was Felix’s 2nd inning and the Ray/League shit show in the 8th. It was just a bad game. Plus Sims and Blowers wouldn’t shut up about their Beltre crush.

Felix winked at me. My life is now complete.

To be fair to Sims and Blowers, the game thread sounds remarkably similar.

I admire your principles.

Beltre and Mike Cameron are still righteous enough to merit our forgiveness, though.

What a dick thing to do to a veteran player.

The guy is a proven quality defender, who has moved to a new position and adapted quickly. This is no way to show him up.

Shit reactionary decision.

I didn't see the game, just heard about it and saw bits and pieces on Gameday. Was Jack pulled mid-inning? Or after they got out of the mess?

If it was mid-inning I can see how it’s probably stupid. If it was between halves, and Jack and Eric got a chance to talk, then who knows what happened?

It’s totally possible Jack was down on himself, was mentally in a bad state of mind, or who knows what else—and reasonably agreed pulling him wasn’t a bad idea.

I am going to come into your house at night and rec up the place.

It was between halves.

I’m kind of with you on this until I hear otherwise.

I don't understand all the anger over this move.

If you’re playing basketball, and the guy you’re guarding repeatedly blows by you, you’re going to get pulled. If you play football and repeatedly miss blocks and allow your quarterback to get flattened, you’re going to get pulled. If you repeatedly screw up routine plays, you’re going to get pulled.

The thread is the height of irony.

Reactionary bitchy comments about a potentially reactionary managerial move.

It probably is not going to be a big deal

I doubt it had anything to do with Wedge thinking Wilson wasn’t giving full effort, he just got some kooky idea in his head that his eyes didn’t look right and from that decided maybe he wasn’t in great shape to play today. Maybe it was more of a “I never should’ve started you today” pull than a “you had two errors rargh” kind of pull.

If anything it’s kind of funny because it furthers the theory that Wedge is obsessed with eyes.

by OlSalty on Apr 6, 2011 4:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Wilson's face is asymmetrical, his eyes may be more difficult to judge.

It's things like this that really endear a player to me. He's taking responsibility for screwing up.

Last year on the dl he acknowledged he was not being the player the M’s traded for and after the thoughts of retiring vowed to fix his career. He showed up in spring training in better shape than I’ve ever seen him in and so far has not disappointed. The only person that can make Jack Wilson better is Jack Wilson and he knows it. Carlos Silva should take note.

Jack Wilson is a stand up guy.

Except you know when he falls and misses plays and stuff.

Luis Rodriguez got a double!

Jack Wilson sounds like a good guy. I’m sure he can handle being benched after 2 errors in one inning. I don’t think its a bad move (or a great move). You might as well have a guy out there who isn’t thinking about how he just royally messed up. Like someone above mentioned this would be a normal move for any other sport. While I don’t think all baseball players are mature enough to deal with this sort of move, I feel confident that Jack Wilson will practice a bunch, get better at 2B and move on with his life.
