FOX Sports article on Jeff Clement (Warning: painful memories ahead)
Jon Paul Morosi has an update on Jeff Clement as he battles his way through injuries and attempts to gain back the shine he has lost since being drafted in 2005.
The focus off this article, actually, is finding a top pick from the 2005 draft that did not work out. Yes, amongst the collection of Troy Tulowitzki, Ryan Braun, Justin Upton, Ryan Zimmerman, Ricky Romero, Mike Pelfrey, Alex Gordon, Andrew McCutchen, Jay Bruce, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Garza, Colby Rasmus, Clay Bucholz, and Jed Lowrie lies poor ol' Jeff Clement.
Nothing outside of Jeff Clement's current status is exactly news. But hey, lots of fun quotes! Hi there, Bill Bavasi!

This is why you never, ever draft for need.

oh boy
Clement checked three boxes where the Mariners were deficient: catcher, power, left-handed hitter. The Seattle scouts were smitten by Tulowitzki, too. Tulowitzki told FOXSports.com contributor Tracy Ringolsby that Seattle had planned to take him until the night before the draft.
What changed?
"They said they had a shortstop in the organization, but no catchers, and therefore that made the pick easy," Tulowitzki said.

He was playing SS in '04, 2B was the next year.
But he was converted to 2B by the time the draft came around.

Why doesn't this surprise me?
It seems like the story of Seattle sports always works out this way.

No, we picked Griffey when the owner wanted some jackass college pitcher who never made the majors.
Or was that A-Rod? One of the two.

I know Lou wanted some college pitcher over A-Rod.

Tulowitzki probably wouldn't be the same player with the Mariners...
Career .273/.346/.461 away from Coors. Obviously he would still be good, but not as elite as Coors makes him look. Also as a RH hitter, I assume Safeco wouldn’t be the best fit for him.

You need Portland to get a baseball team
And then they will free the Mariners from continuously being the ones who draft for need.
