OFFTOP 4/13/2011 - The Other Home Opener edition

Tomorrow is the home opener for the MLS version of the Portland Timbers. In this case, it's literally a "home opener" as it's the first game in the newly remodeled, execrably named Jeld-Wen Field. The Timbers are...not very good right now, but I don't think anybody expected them to be, and that's not the point of tomorrow anyway. Tomorrow's a celebration, a party, a homecoming, and an unveiling.

I haven't been to a Mariners home opener in a few years, after having my streak of 15 straight broken in the early 2000's, and I'm really looking forward to this game tomorrow night. The Timbers Army has been chosen to sing the national anthem, the game's on ESPN2, and all in all it should be one big raucous party and I'm really excited to be a part of it.

What was the last "special event" sporting event you were excited about? A season opener? A playoff game in another sport? Or was it special for a more personal reason? Are you looking forward to any particular sporting event in the next few months?

Also, the usual yammerings about beer, movies, computers, food, etc. Go!
