"He's not going anywhere,'' Zduriencik said. "We've got him. We'll keep him. We're not going to move him.''
GMZ, on Felix, to Heyman

The speculation RE: Trading Felix is just NY writers feeding their readers' rosterbation fantasies.
There is absolutely no reason for the M’s to trade him right now, or at any foreseeable time over at least the next two and a half years.
I get your point. It was poor writing on my point, I think.
I was more addressing the fact that most of the trade speculation I’ve read have taken for granted the fact that because the Mariners are bad now and will likely not be in competition in the immediately foreseeable future they should be willing to trade him. This reasoning misses the point that Felix does have some current value to the Mariners and since he is under contract for several more years at a not-unreasonable price, he is a player the M’s can hope to build a future contender around. So when I said “There is absolutely no reason for the M’s to trade him right now” I was referring to the fact that Felix’s present and future value to the M’s means that there is no pressure to move him now.
.
“We want to be competitive. Let the pieces fall where they may but as of right now we’re not looking to trade Felix.”
“We are currently not interested in trading Felix Hernandez.”
“We want to put a competitive product on the field and right now, Felix helps us do that.”
“As of right now, Felix is a part of our ballclub and we plan to have him as our opening day starter.”
I remember in 1998 when the FO said they weren't trading Randy Johnson

Don't really understand why this is even an issue
you don’t trade one of the top five pitchers in baseball when you have him locked up to a reasonable long-term deal. Period. End of story.

Not end of story, no. Exclamation point.
It all depends on what you could get back for him.

King Felix to Yanks works for everyone (By Ken Rosenthal, essentially as a response to Z’s recent comments)
Although he talks about trying to make a deal that doesn’t seem ridiculous. Screw that. Knowing Zduriencik, anyone wanting to trade for Felix is going to get plundered.
