The 20ll Griffey! Challenge
It's back!
Since that fat piece of shit left us hanging like a Benoit family reunion it's time that we put a new twist to it. I've tossed around ideas for a while and after some careful consideration I've decided to take a page out of Jeff's playbook and suggest that the collective members of Lookout Landing abstain from something until Miguel Olivo draws his first unintentional walk of 2011.
To give this some back story, Miguel Olivo has drawn just 125 bases on balls in over 3000 major league plate appearances. Last year his first walk came in his first at bat of the season. In 2009 it took till April 27. Who knows!
So join me in giving Griffey! a one fingered salute by honoring this continuous memorial to that asshole's futility and resolve.

For the record that if this goes as disastrous as the 2010 edition did I will be getting off the wagon no matter what at 11:59 PM on May 13.
The Portland timbers don't have the power to make people swear.
The Sounders/timbers match will be breezy, relaxing and pleasant.
I thought it was in memorial to the fat fuck that quit on us?

So the swearing thing hasn't gone into effect yet?
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Since some people hear have to be little bitches about the spirit of the things that I say I will have to amend this:
I will not be swearing in the sense that I will not be using any language that you wouldn’t hear on PBS. This also rules out such phrases as “mother f-er” and “stupid @$$hole”
Sure why not?
I give up sody pop until that mofo walks.

I don't think I have as much of a problem as you did.
Easier than giving up god damn swearing for sure.

That would have been useful to put in the original rules.
Or in his original statement. I don’t see anything there about starting at 7 pm tomorrow.
Until Miguel Olivo reaches 1st base by an unintentional base on balls I will be giving up swearing.
Perhaps.
But given Robert’s behavior in this thread, the idea that the chaLLenge hasn’t started yet isn’t much of a stretch.

It does not seem as though anyone wins this contest.
We all lose in different ways.

This is partially motivated by a desire to get more done...
but I will strongly consider giving up both video and computer games.
Seeing as how I just got a new computer, this is potentially disastrous.

The main game I was looking forward to playing (Civ V) has turned out to be a huge disappointment for me.
It may not be that hard…

Public outcry means I definitely have to do this.
Let the suffering commence at 7 pm PDT.

For the 20ll Griffey! challenge I will give up eating out. This does not include drinking at bars or food at Safeco, however.
I will give up meat for LLent
This will not be easy for me.
My "Challenge" Is going to be a bit different
I’m going to do no soda until Olivo draws two unintentional walks in one game or Brendan Ryan hits a home run.
I go to law school. Therefore, I have no life.

So what you're saying is that you aren't going to drink soda until Ryan hits a dinger?
Because there’s no way in hell Olivo is going to get 2 unintentional walks in a game.
by wyte_lightning on Mar 31, 2011 1:22 AM PDT up reply actions
Wow, according to B-Ref, he's drawn 2 unintentional walks in a game only 9 times in his career.
Yikes.
by wyte_lightning on Mar 31, 2011 1:27 AM PDT up reply actions
Well shit, I guess I should have looked at Brendan Ryan's B-Ref page.
Only 9 dingers for him in his career. Good luck.

Thanks!
I’d say there’s gotta be a ~70-80% chance of one of those things happening this year. But, who knows, maybe I’ll be stuck in the same position as Griffey had me last year.
I go to law school. Therefore, I have no life.

I will eat at least two bananas every day from now until the day after Miguel Olivo draws an unintentional walk.
So I’m abstaining from abstaining. Subtraction by addition.
I will give up buying beer. This does not include drinking at bars or at Safeco.
I will brew all of my own beer.
I'll give up reading OT's at work.
Please show better patience and impulse control than I do, Miguel.
I don't know. I think last year was just balance for the first year where Griffdawg went yard in his first AB.
It would only have been balance if he had homered in like June
instead of poor souls like BrianL never getting to have cock sauce again

Fast food.
I think this is what I did last time. Griffey never technically hit a home run, but he did run home, and that was suitable enough to consume an ultimate bacon cheeseburger.

Smoking cigarettes.
This will be very difficult after a few alcoholic beverages.

Until Miguel Olivo reaches 1st base by an unintentional base on balls I will be giving up sushi.
Motherfucker better walk on his first at bat or I will use the money I save on sushi to buy a rifle.
Dawg! He put da team on his back!
All Asian food.
Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, you name it.
Until one Miguel Olivo gets on base via an unitentional walk, no McDonalds for me.
This will be a good thing.

Pizza, Bagels, and Pizza Bagels.
Should be too terrible but I’m not going to take as much of a risk as you fools.
...and now I'm here

Mayve I'll do a reverse challenge, where I'll have to eat McDonalds until Ryan hits a HR or Olivo walks.
You got slurved!
You came to the wrong place to talk shit about Griffey
You don’t pee up wind, you don’t pull Superman’s cape and YOU DO NOT TALK SHIT ABOUT GRIFFEY.

You obviously haven't spent a lot of time on Lookout Landing
late-era Griffey gets a ton of abuse here, as he richly deserves. 2010 Griffey never, never, never should have played, and 2009 was marginal at best. That’s as nice as I can be to those last two years.

I warned him but he did it anyway.
I hope he is careful about what packages he opens in the coming weeks.

Not even most unintentionally ironic comment of the year?
2011 Safeco Field Record: 0-0 ; Overall Safeco Field Record: 12-5
I'm giving up my sanity* until Olivo walks twice or Ryan hits a dinger.
*Even after they perform their challenges, I’ll still not have any sanity left.
