Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Obviously Brandon Morrow isn't a Mariner anymore, but I know a lot of people are interested in how he's doing, and right now, he isn't doing well, as forearm injuries are often linked with Tommy John surgery. On the other hand, this could just be a minor, temporary hiccup. If Morrow *does* have to go under the knife, Brandon League will still be really annoying.

Aw man

I still root for Morrow to succeed. I really hope his career isn’t derailed

TJ surgery seems to "re-rail" a lot of careers

It’s so routine now, and so often helpful, that maybe teams should just schedule it as part of the trip through the low minors. “Congratulations on being drafted kid… Dr. Andrews will see you now.” It’s kind of like docking the ears and tail on a Doberman Pinscher — the young pitcher is cute and all, but he really doesn’t have that fierce competitors’ appearance if he hasn’t had the surgery.

To be serious for a moment: there’s some real risks here for the Jays rebuilding effort even — or especially — if he ends up needing the surgery. At this point, if they try to wiggle past it and end up shutting him down in April or May, it kind of throws a wrench into the Jays “contending in a year or two” plan. Then again, they have so much young pitching it might not be too big of a wrench, and guys do sometimes come back from TJ good (or better) than new in as little as a year, which could be a nice mid-season kick in the pants for them in 2012.

He must've stuck the insulin needle in the wrong place.
