I can imagine many people having a similar sentiment

But you’re one of the few who can pull it off. This is hilarious.

Yo Joh

I moved to Seattle in 2006, got a 16-game plan and watched that team a lot. Johjima was frequently the only player whose effort I actually appreciated. He was an oasis of consistent power in a crappy lineup that featured crappy Carl Everett at DH, plus he took a beating behind the plate and still put in a full season. Not a whole lot to be proud of with the M’s lately but I think we can be proud of Johjima’s effort.

Based on a sample size of two, I am a great fan of relievers out of Austin Peay.

1970s high school sensation and later Spirit of St. Louis Fly Williams went to Austin Peay.

In Loose Balls, it was indicated that a. he originally thought that Austin Peay was based in Austin, Texas, and b. He called it “the Peay” when he went there. Williams was one of the most colorful characters in a league (the ABA) that was pretty full of them.

Thought I would share.

My how things have changed.

Hit it, Wikipedia.

Born in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, he attended Madison High School, where he initially was interested in playing baseball. He was a pitcher, but was advised that he had become too tall to remain competitive in that sport.

Well, I can understand that

When have there ever been any tall pitchers that have succeeded in the Major Leagues?

Gawd.

Remember what it was like to have a Catcher who could hit? Yeah, neither do I.

God dammit I miss Kenji. Fuck.

I think he was a classy guy who got a bad rap and who was a good catcher which we haven’t had since he left. Also I loved his demeanor behind the plate.

since he left = 1 year... maaaybe 1 and a half if you want to count that he got relegated to a backup/was on the dl twice (?) in '09

So yes, while your statement is correct, I think it’s a bit of an exaggeration.

I remember Kenji hitting that opposite field homer on opening day

and the anticipation of what he might do. I was always a big fan of his, even if he wasn’t as awesome in years three and four as he was in the first two.

I am saddened by we as Mariners fans treated Kenji after a 2008 season in which he was no worse than Rob Johnson.

Poor Kenji was disgraced enough to just leave after being made a hood ornament in 2009 and I feel bad, retrospectively at least, for treating him that way just to get Rob Johnson playing time. Now, with Rob subsequently sent packing, we can turn our attention to humiliating/undermining Miguel Olivo in time to discover that the next guy will be just as bad as the rest.

Saying he was "no worse than Rob Johnson" is damning with faint praise.

I mean, getting hit in the face is no worse than crashing your car into a telephone pole.

I'm drunk so perhaps I missed the point, but I'd certainly prefer the latter to the former.

Teams (for foreign blogs): Seahawks, Mariners, Huskies and Broncos. Yes, I recognize the contradiction; I was born in Denver.

I miss Johjima, but boy am I glad he opted out of that deal.

In hindsight, I wish we could’ve kept him for less.

While of course his numbers in JPN aren't fully comparable...

…he played a full season, had a .303/.352/.507 line, and hit 28 HRs. Good for him.

Does anybody else remember the guy

who suited up in catchers gear, a Johjima jersey, and looked just like Johjima. He sat like 15 rows off our bench I think.

And yeah, we had to let him go becuase of the contract. And the pitchers didn’t like him right?
