Would Hanley be a good fit?
I've seen it brought up once or twice on a couple sites, and yes, I realize it is a long shot, but I am curious about your thoughts... would Hanley Ramirez be a good fit for the Mariners?
Hanley is set to make $15M, $15.5M, and $16M over the next 3 years. He's 27, same age as Fielder. Yes, he had a bad year, but for each of the previous 4 seasons he was extraordinary in what he did. Seasons in which he hit 30+ homers, .300+ average, 50+ steals, or .900+ OPS. Those abilities playing a good SS? We could use that.
The question then begs, what would his cost be? He'd be expensive, sure, but Pineda + other good/great players expensive? Remember, he hit .243 with an OPS of .712, there are questions about his health and his attitude as well. So if the Mariners have a chance at acquiring him, what would you be comfortable offering maximum - realistically?
/Hopes this doesn't constitute rosterbaiting...

There's no way the Marlins trade Ramirez with the way they're going after players right now
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Never going to happen.
But if Loria somehow ends up getting arrested for running a ponzi scheme or something and the Marlins are forced to trade all their high-paid players, I’d be comfortable offering Pineda + Franklin.

I believe this is considered Rosterbating.
And I’ll say why. All you did hear was lay out how much he was owed and some numbers he has had in the past and kind of pose a question.
Had you gone into depth about his past, why last season was so off, what he would realistically cost to obtain, how it would effect payroll, what flexibility it gives the tea, how it hampers them, etc. it would be more likely not to be considered Rosterbating.
I may be completely off-base, but this is what I have mostly been told when I am looking to put together something regarding the M’s, of note I have never been blamed for rosterbating as I have done what I suggested above.
Any of the top 50 players in baseball would be a good fit on a terrible team.

I'd offer Alex Liddi
about as much as a fat lazy SS deserves
I think this fanpost is perfectly fine unlike some other commenters.
As long as we don’t start making stupid trade proposals. Its a fine line. Reason and logic keep these threads on track.

Agreed, since it's just posing a question for discussion
If it had been “I think we should trade Paxton and Triunfel for Hanley,” that would be another matter; but kicking out a hypothetical as to what trading for a guy like that would cost is at least a worthy shot at an interesting conversation.

You guys bring up valid points.
I guess I just automatically brush off these kinds of talks. Shouldn’t be so quick to judge.
