5, because DINGERS
We probably wouldn’t make the playoffs with just him, but the team would be a lot more fun to watch just from him alone and could set us up to compete in 2013 and onward.
I voted 3.
Fielder is still young and he’s a very good hitter. Seattle needs a very good hitter.
…and then some. They need more than one very good hitter, or else Fielder is just going to get pitched around.

I don't care if it's Prince Fielder. I would just like some changes to be made. Then I will be all smiles.

I would go from 2 to 3 or 4 with Fielder
Without Fielder, this season will basically be about watching the kids develop. Interesting but painful. Like all those blowout games we lost over the past couple seasons where Saunders would hit a HR in the 9th against their mop up guy.
With Fielder, I think it’s pretty much the same deal except with the more distinct possibility of having those kid’s improvements turn into contention in lucky 2013.
Fielder takes it from a 2 to a 4.
I hate to use this cliche, but having that “feared hitter” in the lineup for the first time in years makes the team much more fun to watch.

Apparently, Prince Fielder is worth about two units of excitement.

Excitements Above Replacement?
EAR?

Excitement level would be at "4" (increase by one)
Looking forward to seeing young players and plus we have Prince Fielder to build around.
Replacing 600 PA of Casper Wells/Guti/whomever else with Fielder.
Yes. That would be more fun.
I think it is interesting that as of 4:45 PM on Saturday, the graph looks like a hand flipping us off.
Coincidence?
5+
About “Chris Paul to Blake Griffin on the Clippers” excited
It'd take me from about a 3 to a 4
There will be some exciting elements regardless, but I think having Prince Fielder would make this team much more fun to watch.
Right now I am at a 2 - this team looks like it probably won't be all that interesting unless the young players start moving up in terms of production
If we were to sign Fielder, I it would only go up to a 3. This team would be better, but I don’t think it would much more competitive than it already is. There is still 2/5 of the rotation that I don’t have any faith in and if we were to add Fielder, roster flexibility would be even more tight than it already is.

Why sir?
It doesn’t seem to hurt anything. I post it in Prince Fielder posts. Does is annoy you?

Is it necessary to post it every time?
by Patrick Stites on Dec 23, 2011 6:01 PM PST up reply actions
Definitely would go up with Fielder.
With the question being how “excited” I would be, I would say 3 or 4. Still a was to go after that, but based on"excitement" I would be a lot more than watching young kids develop without Fielder. That would be “interesting.”
Voted "4", same as the other poll.
This has me at odds. It would all boil down to the kind of contract Fielder gets. Shitty contract, less excitement. Contract that’s good for the team, more excitement.
2 -> 2
Fielder batting 4-ish times per game would be exciting, but his defense sucks and he’s not a good baserunner, so the overall entertainment value added is pretty limited. The Mariners would still be a bad team in a division with two really good teams, and either way I’m not exactly thrilled for the 2012 season. But then again, it’s baseball! So of course it’s never going to be a 1.

My one went to a three.
I barely care at all, anymore, which I am sad about. Felix is great, but other than that? Fielder brings my one to a measly three.
CRExAC?
C: One to a three.
R: No caring
Ex: No caring is sad.
A: Here, no caring because nothing besides Felix
C: One to a three.

Conclusion: He’s guiltiy!
Rule: The law says this.
Explanation: See, he didn’t follow the rule.
Application: Here are the facts.
Conclusion: So find him guilty.

Wow, looks like somebody didn’t graduate law school. Hey everybody, laugh at Patrick, he didn’t get his law degree! I bet you didn’t even pass the bar!! haha.

I voted 4
Mainly because I’ve seen Prince in action at Miller Park many times and he really is exciting to watch. I know that he probably won’t sign with Seattle, and even if he did that there would be plenty of risks attached, but I think it would still be cool
I'm still a 2.
I’d be very worried that Prince Fielder would come here and become terrible. And that would cripple us for what seems like forever.
2 to 3
Fielder would be fun to watch, though season likely to end in an unsatisfactory manner with or without him.
If you look at those UZR ratings or whatever
5 in the first poll, 4 in this one
I will always be incredibly excited about any upcoming season. However if they give Prince $23M+ AAV, it might mean Z is getting desperate, which could mean he feared for his job, which would cast a kind of paranoid gloom on the season.
From two to two.
Yeah, Fielder’s DINGERS! would be exciting to watch and all, but I can’t work up the gumption to care about that in relation to the Mariners being Mariners!.
Because Mariners.
Being excited to see one player suck up loads of our payroll overhead without filling in our other holes…signing Fielder would put me on a 4 or 5 for the 2013 Mariners, but not the 2012 team. It’s another rebuilding season. I am contentedly discontent about that.
From two to three...
I’d be at four or five if Fielder was joined by Carlos Beltran or any other significant upgrade at another position.
Beltran is a Cardinal now.

3 about the 2012 Mariners
The 2014 Mariners? 11.
3 for 2012 because the games would instantly become a hell of a lot more watchable, and yeah, I guess 68-94 is better in an objective sense than 64-98.
Now I'm interested in the poll that asks us how many games we are going to win.
I was think we’d win at least 70 games. That’s a big difference in excitement factor.

Why?
I mean, hooray if so, but I’m not seeing it. Certainly the 9-7 against Oakland could get better, but probably only by a game or two. Our boys just don’t win down there.
Because the team is likely better than last season as it currently stands and won't outright punt the 2nd half of the season.
My hope is that
even if we drop out of it, we’ll have good young players to throw out there on a daily basis instead of Anthony Vazquez.
Hultzen would be up before then, I think.

Tank for the #1 pick! Suck for Luck!
Vasquez is our Opening Day starter, enjoy it Japan.
Of course they could get better
I have faith that Felix, Pineda, shiny new prospects, even Good Vargas, can handle Pujols. And while Wilson and Darvish are good, still – if Smoak, Carp, Dustin, Seager, Wells can’t muster a couple runs then the core of this team is even worse off than we thought and the rebuild will take even longer. I think the M’s as set up right now can be closer to .500 against those teams, especially the LAPAnaheim.

From a 3 to a 4 with Prince.
His addition might add three or four wins to our total. A 70+ win team is more fun to watch. Plus, good hitting is nigh-forgotten pleasure.
The funny thing about Prince is that I'd be more excited about the team, but I'd probably spend less money on them.
I’d go to the same number of games, but I’d want to get bleacher seats for a chance to catch a home run.
Well, maybe if the price difference is big enough, I go to an extra game with the money I save. I’m not exactly an expert on ticket pricing, so I’m not sure how big the difference would be.
