Mariners in Line to Get Huge Increase in TV Rights Fees
Found this pretty interesting. The Rangers TV deal (80 million a year) starts in 2014 while the Mariners can opt out of theirs after 2015 and sign one likely upwards of 70 million.

TV rights fees are the new stadia of 21st century baseball economics
“We can’t compete unless we get a new stadium sign a competitive TV rights deal”. The only difference is that they can’t threaten to move the team if they don’t get what they want.
No, but you can threaten to start your own network!
like the Yankees.
That is such good news, I was afraid our payroll would be way behind all decade.
Now its only for the next 4 seasons.
Not necessarily.
The Rangers aren’t guaranteed to siphon all their new TV profits into payroll. …Although conversely, neither would the Mariners if they signed a huge TV deal.
Just because you’re making money doesn’t mean you have to spend it.
Just because you’re making money doesn’t mean you have to spend it.
Sometimes it feels as if that sums up the Mariners organization perfectly
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
TV deal right when everyone will start hitting Arb
4 $20M hitters, Felix, and our best pre-arb guys. That’s not so bad.
