World Series Fan Poll

The World Series is only days away, and while I can make some assumptions about the LL community, I always prefer to have facts. What do you say? Are Adrian Beltre and Endy Chavez and general team awesomeness enough to have you overlook the whole rival thing and root for the Rangers, or do the Cardinals have a temporary grip on your heart?

I'm with you here. The thought of the Rangers winning the World Series is disgusting.

I’m ambivalent toward the Cards, but they’re not that hard to root for. Pujols is awesome, and I like Holliday and Berkman more than the average non-Cardinals fan. Jaime Garcia is pretty cool, too.

My thoughts exactly

I don’t really care who wins (or loses), however I will be watching every game and rooting for some great baseball.

I do reserve the right to change my mind mid-series when someone (Belte? Pujols? maybe a pitcher?) inspires me or some jerk (anybody else) pisses me off.

I wish it were somehow possible for both teams to lose

But it’s not, so I’ll just hope that the Cardinals win in 7 and Tony LaRussa has a heart attack during the post-game celebration.

I'm sorry, but I can't in my right mind root for any team with Tony LaRussa managing.

I slightly favor the players on the Cardinals, but strongly dislike their manager. This works out to about a 0.05 of a person rooting for Texas. Not significant, but still there. Kind of like Charles Gipson.

For me, baseball died the day the Mariners' season ended.

I guess I’m rooting for the umpires to screw up a lot and ruin the series for both teams and their fans so that everybody walks away unsatisfied, and we get some legitimate umpiring reform for next season.

Texas would be my second favorite team if they were not in the West.

But since they are I hope they catch the non-Magic Johnson AIDS.

...and now I'm here

I'm thinking that maybe if Texas wins one World Series that will get it out of their system,

and then some of their players can begin to decline, have nagging injuries or otherwise go downhill.

Meanwhile, in general I don’t like this business of no starting pitchers making it through five innings, as I focus on the starting pitcher when I watch. This was why I favored Detroit — Fister and Verlander (plus I prefer the Tigers’ uniforms).

I’m not exactly galvanized by the World Series this year and may forget about some games. This happens sometimes.

Definately down with the Rangers getting it out of the way

The Cards have simply had too much historical and recent success for me to get behind.

Real “rooting” in this situation is neglible.

Weakly favor the Rangers

Because when push comes to shove I think baseball is better served when the World Series is won by as many different teams as possible. What good does another Cardinals championship do anyone?

I would strongly favor the Rangers, but crap they’re the Ranger and I’ve been rooting against them since I attained self-awareness. Weak support is the best I can muster.

F*ck the Cardinals though man. God. Seriously. F*ck the Cardinals.

If you think about it

another Cardinal championship would do a lot of people good. The Cardinals have many fans all throughout the midwest, therefore if the win millions of their fans will be happy.

Why do 120 Mariners 'fans' strongly favor the Rangers?

Did you all have a traumatic experience with an actual cardinal when you were a child?

Jeff set this up in a post earlier this year

Rangers win world championship.
Next season, Mariners beat Rangers – at least once.
For however short a time, Mariners are world champions.
It’s called working the system.

Besides, Adrian.

However, I am a "weakly Rangers"

There is something about Tony LaRussa’s upper lip and the way it is formed that makes me want to punch him.

My wife's job moved me to St. Louis...

And God if the Cardinals fans here aren’t annoying. I don’t really want the Rangers to win, but if these arrogant, entitled, whiny, annoying Cards fans could be knocked down a bit it would make me happy.

possibly the best Matthew post ever.

KG: Oh yeah.

I hate the Cardinals and have for 25 years...

I’m originally a Dodgers fan (and still am, in addition to my Mariners fandom), and I can never forgive the Cardinals for the 1985 NLCS. Plus I hate Tony LaRussa with a blinding passion.

Throw in that I love Adrian Beltre and have ever since he was a 16-year old prospect coming up through the Dodgers organization and I live in Spokane and saw some of the Rangers’ players in single-A, I have to go with the Rangers.

by watsonj88 on Oct 18, 2011 8:36 AM PDT reply actions

I think a Rangers World Series win would get that franchise serious about winning long term, like the Tigers.

I don’t want to see that. Better they become like the early 90’s Buffalo Bills, and fall into disgrace after coming so close a few times.

by John Woody on Oct 18, 2011 8:45 AM PDT reply actions

Strongly Favor the American League.

Aside from the Yankees, I will always root for the American League over the National League in the World Series. The AL vs. NL rivalry is stronger to me than AL West vs. NL. Pitchers shouldn’t hit, that’s dumb. Plus, Beltre!

by jarly on Oct 18, 2011 12:31 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

I'd feel that way about anyone BESIDES Texas, New York, or Boston

Which means that over the past decade, I’ve rooted for the AL, what, maybe three times? The White Sox, the Tigers, and the Rays?

by Aly Edge on Oct 20, 2011 1:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Jarly said it all for me

But I agree with those who hope this doesn’t lead to a Rangers dynasty.

It's funny

I bitched like crazy about the ‘06 Cardinals being a weak champion, and now I’m hoping like hell that they, as a team that only made the postseason because of an epic collapse by another team, win the World Series.
