Seattle Visit Info Request
Hello. I'm going to be in Seattle for a few days next week. Anyone have any must sees I should check out? Restaurant recommendations? I'm also a beer snob so good brew pubs or brewery info. would also be awesome. Thanks for any help.

Just so you know, on LL not very many people read FanShots
I would suggest also asking this question in the Off Topic thread, where it will get more visibility and answers.
As a Portlander, I’m inclined to say there are no good brew pubs in Seattle, but I know that’s wrong – are you staying downtown? The Pike Brewery is at the end of Pike Place Market, and they do some good brews, as does Elysian on Capitol Hill.
Thanks for the help man.
I’m actually going to be in Portland for day next week as well. Is it a pretty cool city?
We’re also staying about a block from pikes place so I’ll definitely check out the Pike Brewery.

This might be able to help you out a bit re: Seattle

As for Portland, where will you be, and what will you want to do?

I'm going to be in downtown Portland I assume, right off the 5.
Pretty much; party, drink, and eat.

A day in Portland is limiting
but I can’t recommend enough having a meal at Deschutes and having a beer or three at Bailey’s. Will be within walking distance.

Thanks man. Deschutes is on our official itinerary now.

They should still have The Abyss on tap next week
Get some.
by pdb on Jan 6, 2011 2:46 PM PST up reply actions
Yep
They release a special limited edition Black Butte every year.

This sounds like the best thing ever.
Dawg! He put da team on his back!
If you like porters it's apparently quite good
I get all my porter/stout info from my wife as I generally don’t like them that much.

Honestly, the favorite beers of my entire trip were
Black butte XXll and The Abyss.
They both had incredibly complex finishes. And we got pretty trashed from them too.

I hope so, I was just reading about The Abyss on their website.

Montage. Go to Montage.
Get the mac and cheese (there are 4 or 5 different kinds). If you’re there on Monday or Tuesday it’s half price bottles of wine.
It's also greatly difficult to find if you're not with a local.
But well worth it.
I'm a local and I still don't know how I got there
by Jeff Sullivan on Jan 6, 2011 2:25 PM PST up reply actions
Try it in broad daylight once, it's much easier and creates a muscle memory for going back at night!
by pdb on Jan 6, 2011 2:26 PM PST up reply actions
Do you really count as a local?
How long has it been since you left Padre land?
Am I going to get my ass kicked if I wear my Angels hat around town?

Portland is not a sports town as such unless you're a Duck or Beaver
honestly, nobody will notice or care what hat you’re wearing.

That sounds refreshing actually.
I got berated by Giants fans on a weekly basis.

BLAZERS! ARGH!

How long until Ackley time?
AL Scout on Rendon: "I would peg him as a poor man's Jose Lopez."
But yeah, we're nice around here.

After checking out Montage's website it's a go.
I’m going to order a few Ex-Husbands. 5 bucks for a shot and a beer. can’t go wrong.

For Breakfast ...
the following are, in my humble opinion the best places in Portland to have breakfast and a breakfast cocktail in Portland. The Cricket (32nd ish and Belmont), Jam (22nd and Hawthorne), Gravy (On Mississippi in North Portland). Also, Voodoo Donuts off of 3rd ave is a must after lots of beer.
Oh, Apizza Scholls off of 47th and Hawthorne is the best pizza in town.
Also, The Horse Brass Pub off of 46th and Belmont is one of the best pubs in town.
by JaaronGriffeyJr on Jan 7, 2011 12:53 AM PST up reply actions
The only problem with Gravy is the 37 hour wait for a table
but if you go during the week it’s usually not too bad, and the food is stellar.
I must be the anti-Portlander and say “ehhhhhh” to Voodoo Doughnuts – they’re fine, but not worth waiting in those ridiculous lines for.
by pdb on Jan 7, 2011 8:35 AM PST up reply actions
I usually walk away from restaurants after the 36th hour.

Gravy is a phenomenal place for breakfast and worth the wait once
but usually I’m not one to wait more than 20 min if I can avoid it.
by pdb on Jan 7, 2011 9:40 AM PST up reply actions
We're going to be there on Thursday so hopefully it's not too bad of a wait.
I just showed my traveling buddy pictures of their chicken fried steak plate. It’s definitely going to be our breakfast stop that day. Thanks for the tip, much appreciated.

Don't forget to stick around for some fish throwing.
It seems retarded and pedestrian, but it’s actually kind of cool to me. Certainly an unnecessary side-show flair to fish mongering, but if you can’t have fun at your job, don’t do it.

When I lived downtown I absolutely loathed that mob. They made it impossible to get around when I was trying to shop at the market.
I should point out that if you do actually want to buy fish to ship home, or just have some really good chowder, I’d skip the fish hurlers and go across the street to Jack’s. They’re just as good without the huge side show. They smoke a pretty mean salmon too.
For other eats in Seattle, I’d try to make it over to Salumi run by Mario Batali’s family. Best cured pig anywhere and nothing beats breaking in to a Top Pot Donut at 4am for a maple bar after a hard night of drinking.
I'm thinking golden tate thought the same thing.

I don't know, Fanshots are the LL user content that I read the most. I think this is a good place of an inquiry of this nature
There are also many site regulars who do not read the off topic threads.
Thanks! It's going on our list.

Go in the nid-late afternoon if possible.
It gets packed after 5 and let’s just say that the crowd is…not to everyone’s liking.

This may be old
but this was a thread from a few years back. I’m sure it has some useful information in it still.
checking it out.
Thanks!

I had a chili omelette there.
I kinda figured a 12 egg omelette would be big but man I have no idea why I thought I could eat it on my own.

Where are you staying?
There are places worth checking out in every part of town, so that’d certainly help in terms of suggestions.
Also, Brouwer’s is impressive but Uber is the best beer bar in town. They don’t have as many taps as Brouwer’s but the selection is always fantastic and they have a pretty tremendous bottle list. The atmosphere is far better and they’ve got take out menus for all of the places in the neighborhood, which can make for a fun night. Also it’s not in Fremont, which is a plus.
We're staying a few blocks from Pikes Place.

FYI, if you want to blend in a little better, it's known as Pike Place.

I realized I had been away from Seattle too long when I went to Starbucks a few days ago and ordered a "Pikes Peak"
The barista just stared at me

The Pike Brewing brewpub is a nice spot in that case.
The beer isn’t amazing but it’s good and the food is quite good as well. Also the Seattle Art Museum has a restaurant called Taste which is criminally underrated that’s close by as well.
And though I am in the minority, I think the Sculpture Park is awesome and makes for a great afternoon stroll.

Pike Brewing has some game.
Their IPA has a nice hoppy start and a rosy finish. I miss it dearly.
The sculpture garden on the north end of the downtown waterfront has some very good pieces
if youre into contemporary art. Or even if youre not. I was impressed with what they put together.

If you go to Pike Place look for the wall covered in gum.
It should be down some stairs next to where the fish tossers are. It’s the most random thing I’ve seen.
As for bars and places to party, Seattle is kinda expensive so I don’t go there, at least for me since I’m a college kid. University District has a lot of college kids and bars if that’s your scene. Capitol Hill has some pretty cool bars and won’t charge you 8 dollars for a rum and coke like some of the bars in Seattle.
If you like sushi umi sake house has some good happy hour specials. Bubble tea in Seattle is also really good. There’s also a hard rock cafe near by. Their drink specials are super expensive tho, you get to keep the cup but still. The Crocodile in Seattle is a pretty well know live music place, I haven’t been there my self do I don’t really know how good the music is.
The EMP is pretty cool and depending on the exhibit the Seattle Art Museum is cool. There’s also a IMAX theatre in Seattle as well.
Going to the top of the Space Needle is pretty cool, and there’s also Columbia Center (formerly Bank of America Tower) but it’s got less of a panoramic view
