9/9: Open Rainiers Game 2 Thread
The Mariners aren't playing today, which makes this the perfect night to check out a more talented affiliate in the first round of the PCL playoffs. After a wild Game 1 that saw the Rainiers rally past the Sacramento River Cats, they'll look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series tonight. It's Blake Beavan versus something Banwart at 7:05, and you should follow along to see if what the hell we're playing against Tommy Everidge
You should pay attention to the Padres/Giants series too. Football can crawl into a hole and die.

We're starting Beavan? fuck. Could've sent Felix down to get him some playoff experience.

Well that worked...
and let me know that the stream for today’s game was current;y unavailable. Hahahaha
Not working for me in firefox.
And bearskin, that’s not very productive, i was hoping that someone else would have had the same problem and possibly been able to help me.

Way late but Tacoma's radio link has never worked for me-always says waiting for video.
I always listen to the other team’s broadcast no problem.
These guys are ready to be Mariners

Felix + Mariners vs Michael Pineda + Tacoma
Felix would dominate, but the Mariners would fail to get a run after 9 innings of 0-0 ball. Aardsma gives up a home run in the 10th.
I see you are optimistic the Mariners could hit once they got past the starter,
unfortunately, Cortes and Leuke could probably shut the M’s down for a week.
For a guy whose stuff kinda sucks Beavan sure takes his time between pitches.

So, in MiLB.TV, they don't cut to commercial.
I am watching an “athletic bunny” race a giant bottle of Nestle chocolate milk and a giant River Cat around the infield.
Oh shit this is on mlbtv?

No, M"i"LB.tv
One month $6. What the hell, I’ll watch the PCL playoffs.
Baseball that kinda matters!

Carp has this absurdly hopeful look on his face in the box.
It’s like he forgot he was Mike Carp.

That was bullshit
The ball got tucked under a flap at the bottom of the right field wall.
Man...
Listen to that crowd. Don’t get used to it, boys.

Hi, I'm Pablo Sandoval.
I’m here to swing at the ball every time, and I’m also here to ground into double plays.
In Sac and I will say that Wimberly has some speed
Although every other skill is non-existent

Dude,
3 straight to Winfree. None of them easy, but none of them fielded wall. It looked like he was struggling to get a read on it.
There's something about oversize AAAA guys that seems to win them a lot of fans

I wanted him to do well.
Too bad he kinda sucked ass in Tacoma.

The mascot is now spraying a red mohawk on a random fan's head.
In the name of Supercuts.
There's been moments where he reminds me of Edgar

Is he the frontrunner for the ROY in the NL?
by kennerdoloman on Sep 9, 2010 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions
Depends on who you ask.
Jason Heyward has a pretty devoted fanbase.
Jaime Garcia gets endorsements.
And Gaby Sanchez is the other name I’ve heard most often in the discussion.
Neil Walker should be in that discussion...
He’s posting numbers similar to Posey, except he strikes out more. Defense isn’t that great either, but come on. I hear nothing about him in the ROY discussions. Probably because he seems to be playing over his head and won’t be able to sustain these numbers. But isn’t ROY supposed to be for who has the best season as a rookie, not who will become a star? I don’t think he deserves the award of Posey, but I’d like to hear him be in the discussion a bit.
So Beavan seems to be terrible

Has he been on a hot streak?
Or is this something new?
by hairofthedawg on Sep 9, 2010 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions
Seems he's been a little hot lately
7 G, 29 AB, 4 R, 10 H, 3 2B, HR, 7 RBI, 7/2 K/BB, .345/.387/.552
From Jay’s always excellent Minor League Wrap
Thanks, I was just reading that.
Hopefully he’ll carry the confidence over to next year.

I'm really thrilled with both this game and the Minor League Gameday
Way more informative, I love it.
I went to the Rainiers last month
and couldn’t stop saying “Djustin Smoakley!!!” to myself for like two days.
Ack Right!
I'd rather know a little about a lot than a lot about a little
Benacka's line for that inning is interesting.
4 balls, 3 strikes. One walk, one striikeout. He doesn’t waste time on anything!
Listening to the Bates Technical College commercial
At first I thought it was a religious ad, as they kept talking about faith and how it could help you. Turns out they were saying Bates.
I haven't really been paying much attention to the Rainiers lately...
What happened? When did he get injured?
Lame.

Going to Speigner with Lueke and Cortes avaliable?
Are all teams related to the M’s bad at bullpen management?
You got slurved!
John Halama won 14 games in 2000
5.08 era, 4.62 FIP. Wins are not a good stat BBWAA!
I haven't enjoyed a baseball game this much in a while.
And I’m not even watching or listening to it! Just have Gameday open. This game has gone by about 348290 times faster than the average Mariners game.
I was just going to say this.
This is much more fun than watching the Mariners.
Oh, it actually was really long.
I thought you meant it seemed long. Over 4 hours?!? What the hell happened?
I just notices that the weather thing on Gameday says that the wind is blowing "calm MPH"
If that’s too specific, it goes on to say that it is Calm.
Well I was doing my Ap Pyhsics HW and if I did the math right...
Assuming gravity is the only force acting on a pop up that went straight up into the air and has been free falling for 4 seconds, falls 78.4 metres. That’s Eric Brynes territory pop-ups there.
You got slurved!
He looks like the tech nerds I work with
and not one of the smart ones.
John Halama started this season with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs,
his third season with the Blue Crabs.
I once got blue crabs from this girl. I hate that.
I love looking at independent league rosters.
Did you know Scott Spiezio and Carl Everett are playing for the Long Island Ducks?
