Need a rooting interest this weekend? I'm here to help. The primary benefit left to play for is draft position. While that would seem to indicate that rooting for losses would be advisable, it gets trickier. See, the Angels are currently sitting with the 15th worst record in baseball. The worst 15 get their first round pick protected from signing Type A free agents. Therefore if you want to hurt the Angels--as well as do--then you are rooting for the following things:
The Angels to win
The Athletics to lose (they are just one game worse than Anaheim)
The Tigers to lose (the closest team better than Anaheim)
The Dodgers, Marlins and Mets to all lose (to stay worse)
Rooting for the A's to lose means rooting for the M's to win. Luckily, that would not harm our own draft position because the Orioles are playing the Tigers so we're rooting for Baltimore to win anyways. It would maintain the current draft order, leaving us with the two pick and it has a chance to throw the Angels out of a protected first round pick into that most hated of positions, 16th. Also, in a completely meaningless way, it would be nice for some people to have the Mariners avoid a 100-season.
Thu Sep 30, 17:05: Doug Fister vs. Gio Gonzalez*
Fri Oct 01, 17:05: Luke French* vs. Trevor Cahill
Sat Oct 02, 17:05: David Pauley vs. Brett Anderson*
Sun Oct 03, 11:05: Felix Hernandez vs. Dallas Braden*
Obviously Felix's start may not happen. I haven't heard who would take the start in his place, but there's obviously more than a few options. Hyphen, Garrett Olson, possibly others I am forgetting. The other seven guys are uninteresting.
[16:13 UPDATE]: Felix is done for the season.

When you say 16th do you mean 15th?
Or maybe I’m not understanding “getting their first round pick protected from signing Type A Free Agents” means. Is being in the bottom 15 a good or a bad thing?
The 15th pick and earlier are protected.
The prepositions are a little wonky, I understand.
16th worst.
I was staying consistent with 1st being the worst record and so on
Yes he is.
Tweets about how boring he is do not make him less boring
I disagree.
I think they make him the reason I hate Facebook and the reason Twitter sucked so much four years ago.
