This hardly seems fair. I guess we couldn't keep playing teams worse than us for the rest of the season. For whatever it is worth, if the Mariners continue to win 66% of their games for the remainder of the season then they will finish with 75 wins.
When the season first begins, I bemoan how fast the games seem to go by. By game eight you are just sort of getting used to baseball being on and the season is already 5% over! Oh no. You know absolutely nothing by the end of April and it's about 20% completed. This isn't fair. And then somewhere between then and now, it shifts into the repetitive and usual and I find myself frankly shocked that there are still as many as 41 games left to play. What do you mean there's a whole quarter of the season left?
Fri Aug 20, 16:05: Felix Hernandez vs. A.J. Burnett
Sat Aug 21, 10:05: Jason Vargas* vs. Javier Vazquez
Sun Aug 22, 10:05: Luke French* vs. CC Sabathia*
I have never seen a pitch chart like Burnett's. See, you don't need three pitches to be a starter. You just need good pitches.
I already found it funny that Javier Vazquez got so much flak from New York fans for his performance there in 2004 but for some reason I find it funnier that he's actually bad this season. Burnett has only been about average as well, but CC has been his usual self. Too bad he has to take the hill opposite Luke French. Poor CC never had a chance.

Do you like this story?

I'm kind of shocked that the Yankees are only 5th overall. Do you think that there's four teams that are legitimately better than them, or is it all kind of a wash at the top?
It certainly looks like there are no fewer than four teams which have so far
performed better, in aggregate. If your question is whether there are four teams which are more talented then that’s a different story. My inexpert opinion is that no, there are no teams in baseball more talented than the Yankees, although a couple are probably close.

The Rays, Padres and Rangers (teams 2-4) are just a handful of runs better than the Yankees so far.
The Twins are miles ahead of anyone. They’ve been otherworldly.
GOOD THING LOPEZ IS STILL BATTING CLEANUP

I'm so fucking sick of this
I would be so happy if I never saw another comment about Lopez batting 4th

Well both... but I was talking about people bringing it up
Seems like they think by moving him out of cleanup we will suddenly be good? I know, lets put Ichiro at 4th

Or anyone better than Lopez, like, say,
Figgins, Saunders, Kotchman, or even Josh Wilson.
All have better wOBAs.
Baker tweeted that Saunders is a "healthy" scratch.
Trying not to overreact here, but is Brown really giving ABs to Tui at Saunders’ expense?
Really?
Well there goes my injury theory.
"Seems to me if you bought your Sunday beer on Saturday night, this becomes a complete non-issue."
Burnett's pitch % just made me realize that it doesn't always equal 100%.
My world has been shattered.
4% OF THE TIME HE DOESN'T THROW A PITCH AT ALL
HOW IS THAT FAIR?
I am going to come into your house at night and rec up the place.
No Saunders, and Lopez at #4?
Uggghhh. Even if I accept the sad fact that Lopez is gonna get good playing time the rest of the year, why keep Saunders out of the lineup? Too many LH bats if he’s there? Is it as simple as not having a place to put Tui if Saunders is in LF and Lopez is in the IF? Is it that Saunders has shown enough to make the team next year, so its more important to give Tui time to prove himself this season?
I think Saunders is still battling an injury.

Daren Brown thinks of Tui as his son
you would bench your own son? What kind of parent are you?

I don't think Tui should get AB's at the expense of Saunders,
but you do have to admit he’s swinging a hot bat right now.
"Seems to me if you bought your Sunday beer on Saturday night, this becomes a complete non-issue."
I don't know that I'd call it a "stretch",
but with as well as he hit the last two games, why would you bench him?
"Seems to me if you bought your Sunday beer on Saturday night, this becomes a complete non-issue."
Let's see:
- Facing a RHP, I’d rather have Saunders
- I think Saunders has a higher ceiling and deserves the playing time over Tui
- Saunders is a better fielder and I want Felix to have the best defense possible behind him
- Two game samples are meaningless
Though I'd be willing to give Lopez the day off and play Tui at 3B
Then give Tui starts at 1B or DH against Sabathia instead of Kotchman or Branyan.
All valid points.
And if Saunders is healthy he should be in there. But it would be nice to let Tui keep playing as well. Give Lopez the day off or something.

Because Shannon Drayer likes Lopie
And although people tend to criticize Lincoln and Armstrong, its Drayer who’s secretly been pulling the strings all along. She’s the cunning evil mastermind that we’ve never suspected!
